Anyone knows if they are still planning to start flights from ANR and OST?
That same document mentions a requested start of operations from 31May, to be confirmed though. Knowing VLM is rather late in their announcements of new routes, it could be announced somewhere in April.

Furthermore, your source states 2 flights a day to ANR and 1 daily flight to OST. Probably excluding Saturdays and/or Sundays.

i think that they better should focus on ANR operations for the moment than to start risky OST operations now

They should also launch routes from Brussels, e.g. the very successful route BRU-LCY they had in the past.

I have often wondered that. Was it really so successful? I should have expected another airline to jump on the opportunity, then ..?

When I flew VLM between BRU and LCY, the Fokker was chock full. Sabena also tried the route, but didn't succeed due to a wrong choice of aircraft.

And however much success it may have had "in days of yore" would be dimmed today by the Eurostar train service.

Indeed, the Eurostar takes less time all the way to London than going through passport control in Brussels.
High speed train is the better option for distances up to 600/700km, unless its a connecting flight.

This morning Yves Panneels, VLM Regional spokesman, told me that the airline is not planning to fly to Manchester. The information in that link is wrong.

Yves Panneels told me once that with the addition of the BHX flights and the charter flight schedule, all 6 F-50s would be fully utilised and it was not possible to add any more destinations.

Since the start-up of Vizionair I want to fly their special livery fokker 50. Due to the kind of operations they do it is very hard to get on one of their own flights. Living in Antwerp, I see OO-VLN very often, the dedicated plane, flying over my house operating for VLM-VO. Is someone on this site familiar with a person which does planning operation for VLM so I can have more chance of flying on that plane in Vizion colours while booking a regular VO flight? Many, many, many thanks!!!

We'll see whether the MAN flights ever materialize, but in the mean time all I can say is that this - taken from the MAN airport site - wouldn't be such a bad schedule. Seeing how it combines early morning and evening flight to ANR (mostly business travelers) with leisure flights to OST (Bruges really) around noon. Great way to make maximum use of an airplane:

Code: Select all

MON to FRI
-------------
ANR 07:30 - 08:25 MAN 09:05 - 11:50 OST 12:10 - 13:00 MAN 13:30 - 16:15 ANR 16:55 - 17:50 MAN 18:25 - 21:10 ANR

SAT
---
ANR 07:30 - 08:25 MAN 09:05 - 11:50 OST 12:10 - 13:00 MAN 13:30 - 16:15 ANR

As far as I can see, only 4 VLM F50's are active.(OO-VLI,VLN,VLQ,VLS)
OO-VLZ :(the youngest)still without engines? When will that be active again?
OO-VLO : Will that one ever be reactivated?

So,indeed no room for ANR-MAN-OST-MAN-ANR at this moment,it seems.

Would be a nice schedule indeed.maybe a bit tight . Also Sunday evening flight could be added later on.

IMHO Ostend as a destination would for sure not only be 'leisure' , but also 'business' . Catching area for OST-MAN being beyond Gent,Kortrijk,Terneuzen,Dunkirk,Calais,Terneuzen?...I guess a lot of businesses in that area could have connections with firms in the MAN area.

This might be the truth, as I saw on FR24 that VLM has planned a daily flight from Manchester to Ostend the upcoming week (also today), except for the first of april, and two daily flights from Antwerp. But the timetable they show is a little different, and there is nothing to see on the website of VLM

OO-VLO will never fly again
OO-VLJ same story will be scrapped for parts
OO-VLZ will fly probably in max 2 weeks

Why apply for slots if you don't have the aircraft to perform the operation?
Can someone explain?

Surely MAN won't be amused to hold slots for a airline that doesn't show up.

Thats what I expect from a airline, make planes fly as much as they can.
So one of the 5 planes can operate ANR-MAN-OST but why does Mr Panneels deny this.

Wouldn’t it be much better that they first focus on getting sufficient yield/load factors on their existing flights to ZRH, BHX, MUC, before embarking on a (costly) start-up of another new route? LCY is doing well, but the other destinations should still improve (which is surprising, given for example the much cheaper offer of VLM to ZRH versus SN or LX from BRU). From the past we know that MAN was successful from ANR, but a mid-day flight to OST needs to be build from scratch. Anyhow, we should give them time to grow their network, I would already be very pleased if they could sustain flying profitably to the current destinations (and maybe look for a codesharing with LX on ZRH, or LH on MUC), and by time switch to newer aircraft. Currently keeping one extra F50 as a back-up, is probably not a bad idea during the start-up of new routes (in case of technical problems, pax are stuck at ANR, there are no alternatives).
