KLM and/or AMS Amsterdam Schiphol Airport - Latest news 2018

Post by Passenger »

It seems that KLM has avoided a 24h strike by cabin crew that was planned for Monday 08th Jan 2018:
EN:

NL:

KLM's cockpit crew is very unhappy with the soft way that KLM management has given in to the demands from KLM's cabin crew:

I wouldn't trust anything that this journalist (Yteke de Jong) writes, she has a horrible track record when it comes to obvious errors regarding aviation news.

A new storm ("westerstorm") is expected for Thursday 18th Jan 2018, a.m.

KLM has cancelled already more then 200 flights.

Not confirmed yet: no ground handling at AMS between 10h and 12h local time. No diversions allowed into AMS, unless emergency.

The baby has no name yet - hence they just call it "a storm from the west" (more southwest actually).

I remember when I grew up this weather used to be known as 'wintery weather' or a 'windy day'
I know... I'm getting old right!

Article from 9th Jan 2018:
https://www.aviation24.be/airlines/air-f ... -attacked/
"Norwegian couple misbehaves on KLM flight to Panama; purser attacked"
A Norwegian couple on KLM flight KL757 between Amsterdam and Panama behaved that badly that they were detained and immediately sent back to the Netherlands, under police escort. A 26-year-old female passenger terribly mistreated the purser after she was refused more alcohol. The passenger will stay in a Dutch prison until next 18 January, that day she will appear in court. The 33-year-old male co-passenger has been released, according to the Dutch Public Prosecution Service. During the flight, the cabin crew already had their hands full with the couple. While the man was “only” verbally aggressive, his wife became really aggressive: in the galley, the purser got a punch full in the face. The cabin crew chief was also pulled by the hair while the Norwegian lady made kicking movements to her head. A colleague was able to relieve the victim. Already in-flight the passenger was immobilized; the cabin crew used oven mitts to protect themselves from the spitting and biting movements of the woman.

Today's Police court verdict: 6 months for the lady - 3 months effective, 3 months on probation.

Yes, seems they had interesting times this morning at EHAM.

METARS :

65 knots gusts that is 120 km/h !
And note the swing in the variable direction, 60°.

Wagner's Der fliegende Holländer may have been an appropriate musical background !
Seems back to almost normal now with 22 kts.

After more then an half hour holding above the North Sea and after two go-arounds for AMS runway 27, KL-724 diverted to Brussels. Whilst climbing out of AMS on the last go-around, the crew declared pan pan low on fuel. AMS told them it would become 25L there.

That's if the storm hits the British Isles first.

If they hit France, Spain or Portugal first, the names are different:

Ana – Bruno – Carmen – David – Emma – Felix – Gisele – Hugo – Irène – Jose – Katia – Leo – Marina – Nuno – Olivia – Pierre – Rosa – Samuel – Telma – Vasco – Wiam.

In today's case, the opinions seem to diverge: all of France and part of Belgium call it David; the British, of course, speak of Fionn.

... and in Germany, it is called Friederike. Three different names for the same storm! The EU should set some common rules...
