Yes. If it involves payload (pax/cargo) loaded in US city A, delivered to US city B it is illegal. Cabotage - "8th/9th freedom" - is still illegal in the US
You are correct indeed, but the opposite is not illegal. US carriers can operate between two EU cities, according the open skies agreement. Not fair, but legal.

Exactly: to eat or to be eaten. That's what you fight for through your politics. It is not even a funding question you have to protect the laws that are valid worldwide. Why does Europe has to be more "correct" than others?

Although the strawberries are an interesting remark. Nothing Belgian anymore except for beer - Belgian recipe, brewed in India. I am flemish, I sometimes see politics and laugh when they consider our "cultural" language our pride. Is that our pride? But wait, the Chinese are investing in Willebroek... not anymore, the Saoudi in Antwerp,...? Oops.

I get strawberries from my own garden by the way. When the time is right. Lots of people brew their own beer, own wine. What you do yourself, you control, you own. Our language? Don't make me laugh...

To eat, or be eaten.

Aircraft is former OO-THC.
What will happen with OO-THD: it will follow the same way ?
OO-THC is now B-1340 Suparna Airlines, with Yangtze River Airlines titles on the fuselage (source: Dutch aviation forum).
To be seen at AMS right now...

Does anybody know why half of the ASL Airlines "Belgium" fleet is registered in Austria?

It's what TNT Airways used to do, presumably to avoid the "slow" BCAA.

First OO- on Antarctica?*
Forget it. A DHC Otter already in the 1950's, OO-HAD. And a small helicopter, too, at one time.

*sic!

Austrian regulations regarding registering and maintenance are more tolerant ;)

Regulations are EASA, not Austrian or Belgian.
However, the Austrian CAA is a private company, which makes a huge difference in terms of service and flexibility....

ASL Aviation Holdings (Ireland) confirmed its participation in the proposed transaction to unite Safair (South Africa) and Airlink (South Africa), pending approval. ASL will remain a minority shareholder within the merged Airlink group of companies. Brands will continue to operate separately.

Second hand (or better 6th hand) "new"

Happened a few months ago, Austrian registration OE-IAC, a Boeing 737-4M0, built for Aeroflot, first flight in april 1998.

Seems that ASL is done registering planes on the Belgian register though, there are currently 10 planes in the Belgian register with the last one registered a year and a half ago. ASL has in the mean time also 10 planes in the Austrian register, the last one OE-IAC from last September.

Austria is probably a bit cheaper to register planes with :-)

Heard on the radio yesterday that the staff of ASL in Liege donated 20000 euros to the charity "viva for life" of vivacite radio channel. Generous people.
