And especially SN finishes October (January> October) having added the same number of passengers as over the whole year 2016 except 12,000 passengers. 7.724.794 (01 > 10/2017) vs 7.736.791 (2016). It's amazing.

The number of pax to Mumbai has dropped more than 20% since its peak in June. Was it a good idea to add a 6th weekly for the winter season?

We'll see of course...

From what I learned on this forum, and if I'm not mistaken, SFX is the only one able to make the trip, besides the A332s.

Meanwhile BRU airport "only" grew by 8.5%. Again SN outperformed its home airport and increases its market share. And that is before the takeover of TCAB.

Besides the seasonal effect, SN is now in a different phase of its development on this route. In the beginning of a long haul route, tickets are often sold 'too cheap' (in particular in a market where you are virtually unheard-of) to fill the flights as much as possible, make yourself known. That start-up went as good as it can go and now yields come into play. As Gustin said this week in relation to the Belgian trade mission in India, the route is fast approaching the balance it needs for profitability and the closer to a daily service it gets, the better (to attract business traffic). About 70% of the pax on this route transfer to the rest of Europe, North America and Africa, making BRU again increasingly recognizable as a potential transfer point in Europe for the Indian market. If the development continues like this, a route to Delhi is not far off anymore (however before such a thing can be decided, BOM has to be an indisputably profitable route and obviously after half a year that's not possible yet).

I have a small related question regarding the Mumbai flights. In B-Inspiration - in my opinion one of the best inflight magazines in the air - I see a map with the destinations of SN and its codeshare destinations. What surprises me is that they codeshare on the route Mumbai-Ahmedabad. So not to Chennai, not Delhi, not Bangalore, ... Why this destination and not the latter three? Strange ...

In novembre, Brussels Airlines grew again with 15,6% compared with 2016(!), the numbre of flights decreased with 1,8%, Passenger Load Factor grew to 74,5% wich is 2,8% more compared with 2016. This brings the total passengers for this year up to 8 427 73, and decembre should be added. This result is the best in their whole history. When decembre ends, we might end close to 9mio for this year, If the growht continues like this, and with new routes to India in 2018 and the new routes flown for EW, it might be possible they end 2018 close to 10mio. But that's a guess.

I will not compare apples and pears but just put some traffic figures under the spotlight.
Sabena has transported 10,933,788 passengers during its 2000 record year. With a fleet at its peak of 87 aircraft including 17 long haul airplanes.
brussels airlines will reach the mark of +/- 9,000,000 passengers transported in 2017, with around 52 aircraft since the take-over of Thomas Cook Belgium. Mainly Airbusses A319-A320-A330.
Cheers

Which new routes to India in 2018?
The EW routes are EW passengers!

I heard rumours they would open a new route to India, wich wasn't confirmed yet. I didn't knew the PAX from DUS would be for EW, it's more or less like a charterflight.

I guess the rumor is the flight to DELHI from BRU...but after having a conversation with a SN pilot...it will no be in 2018.

I think it is unlikely that we will see a new long haul destination next year. (IIRC, Mumbai was announced in September?) As far as I understand, there will be a couple of frequency changes to existing destinations, but that is about it. 2017 was still a tough year for North American routes (still suffering from 22/03), New York / Washington were still below the 2015 numbers, Toronto was not profitable yet (but also not really losing money). 2017 also saw the launch of Mumbai, which is still in its first year and obviously is not cash-positive yet. 2018 will be a year that numbers will have to show that the recent long haul expansion is sustainable and that the company is going In the right direction, ready for the future, ready for when the economic climate will get tougher again.

2017 will very likely end with between 9,1-9,2mio passengers. Next year's growth will mainly come from the additional 10 months of Thomas Cook, about 5-6% "organic" growth due to the replacement of Avro's by A320's. It should not be too hard for Brussels Airlines to reach the 10mio mark in 2018, and hopefully with a big profit! :)

I fully agree with the realistic point of view of DeltaWiskey but I fear for the future in Africa also because Air France-KLM is continuing to increase frequencies and direct flights to West Africa but also to the rest of Africa with a large number of connexion in CDG! SN must be careful about that! Don't forget also Ethiopian and companies from the Gulf!

+9.3% pax in December vs 2016. Europe +6.6%; Africa +17.3% (!!!); but N/A -2.6%; Middle East -6.2%; India 10,338, its highest since opening.

On Y/Y cumulative: +17.2%, reaching 9,077,178; significant increase of all other figures too, including cargo.

North America was due to Toronto (-1 weekly flight because of an upgrade on Mumbai to 6 weekly) and Middle East because SN did a better job in managing capacity vs demand on TLV (a slightly negative effect on total pax, but overall a better performance).

Obviously it was a good idea; pax numbers went up quite a bit both in November and December.

Yes, but that is 'normal' since they increased flights from 5/w to 6/w

Indeed strong increase for Africa. This has something to do with the New flights to Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Cape Verde and the increases to Morocco.
