A sad sight.

Boeing will raise production of B787s to 14 per month in 2019, reviving plans previously on hold due to a wobble in demand for widebody jets.

Hawaiian Airlines is rethinking its order to purchase A330-800neos and may switch to the Boeing 787, according to chief executive Mark Dunkerley, as talks with manufacturers are ongoing. Additionally, the B717s may stick around into the 2030s.

Virgin Atlantic says all 15 of its B787s are affected by faults with RR Trent 1000 engines, forcing the carrier to call on partner Delta Air Lines and lease four ex-Air Berlin A330-200s for up to four years, or indefinitely.

Virgin, who may seek compensation from Rolls-Royce, also brought an A340-600 back into service.

The FAA has limited the ETOPS flights of a number of 787 aircraft. In particular, it restricts the planes from operating more than 140 minutes from a diversionary airport, down from 330 minutes currently.
It concerns aircraft equipped with the Trent 1000 “package C” engines. It was found that durability issues afflicting blades were worse than first thought. About a quarter of in-service 787s and 350 turbines will be affected.
The European Aviation Safety Agency last week already ordered additional maintenance checks, while Japan ordered All Nippon Airways to fly its Dreamliner jets powered by the affected Rolls-Royce engines on a path close to airports protectively in case an emergency landing is required.

Air France said it would be forced to ground one of its new B787s and reduce its flight frequency from Paris to Guangzhou over a disagreement with its main pilot union about pilot training.

Uzbekistan Airways and Boeing signed an agreement for another B787-8, the sixth Dreamliner for the national carrier. All six to be operating by 2020, with the third delivery soon.

British Airways applied for regulatory approval to wet-lease three A330s from Qatar Airways from 01 June to 30 September 2018, in order to overcome schedule disruption caused by RR Trent 1000 engine maintenance on its B787s.

Air France entered talks with Air Austral (Reunion) to lease out one of its B787s, as it deals with a pilots’ union strike which has grounded one of its six Dreamliners. Air France is also considering the cancellation of its seventh B787 delivering in October 2018, if the dispute continues.

Rolls-Royce is adding people and maintenance space to triple the capacity, reducing turnaround times, developing innovative inspection techniques, accelerating new part introduction for customers affected by the issues with Trent 1000 Package C engines that have left some of B787s grounded.

Rolls-Royce aims to have first parts available for engine overhaul in late 2018, rather than 2019 as originally planned.

Norwegian will again be wet leasing B747-400s from Wamos Air (Spain) in most of June and July 2018, to cover B787 downtime.

ANA will cancel an additional 176 domestic flights until 22 July to perform mandatory inspections on Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines on its Boeing 787 aircraft. So in total 289 flights will be cancelled. These 289 cancellations make up about 2 percent of ANA’s scheduled domestic flights during that period. ANA is investigating if additional cancellations would be needed after this period.

The story is not over yet.ANA All Nippon Airways cancelled a further 330 domestic flights from 23-31 July 2018, and warned of further cancellations in August as it continues to inspect Trent 1000 engines on its B787s.
