BA apply to CAA to operate Qatari Airbus during strikes

Post by quixoticguide »

British Airways Plc applied on 21 June 2017 to wet lease nine Qatar registered Airbus A320 or A321
aircraft, registrations to be advised, between 1 and 16 July 2017, and for additional periods, yet to be
defined, for a maximum of two months.

The application has been made on the grounds that the lease is justified on the basis of exceptional
needs (Article 13(3)(b)(i) of Regulation (EC) No 1008/2008) to enable British Airways to continue
passenger operations in light of planned operational disruption by its Mixed Fleet cabin crew

I guess until the situation in Qatar gets resolved, there are a lot of A320/321 crews not doing much at the moment as their Gulf region 'domestic' flying has pretty much ceased.

Aren't those A340s used when BA is merging two flights into a single one? I heard that several short-haul flights were being merged.

In a move that seems certain to inflame the cabin crew dispute, British Airways is paying staff working normally the bonuses that would have gone to their colleagues who are on strike.

Members of Mixed Fleet, who are employed on less-favourable terms than longer-serving Heathrow cabin crew, are normally paid a bonus known as My Incentive. Karen Slinger, Head of Inflight Customer Experience, has told staff that the airline is saving money “as a result of not paying My Incentive within Q1 and Q2 to those Mixed Fleet crew taking strike action”.

Those bonuses should go to the Qatar crew :)
