Belgocontrol ATC strikes 2016

Post by dna »

Luckily, you can always count on ATC to complicate things even further. Despite an agreement between trade unions and management, they still go on strike.

Breaking: Belgocontrol air traffic control strike (22 april 2016)

Post by Passenger »

Unbelievable - this is no April fool: Belgian ATC calls for an immediate strike (through sickness):

HLN.be: "...De Belgische Gilde der Luchtverkeersleiders aanvaardt het akkoord dat eerder op de dag werd bereikt niet... De vakbond roept haar leden op om zich ziek te melden... De andere vakbonden nemen niet deel aan de wilde staking. Belgocontrol bekijkt nog welke impact de actie heeft voor het vliegverkeer. Heel wat vluchten worden alvast herzien..."

A union at Belgocontrol, De Belgische Gilde der Luchtvaartleiders, has asked their members not to show up at work today as a result of the recent social agreements. Other unions are not participating in this action. A few flights have been delayed.

EDIT: Beaten by a minute, but indeed, unbelievable action once more.

Unbelievable. Un-be-lie-va-ble! Have they no shame??? In THESE extremely difficult times, after terrorist attacks, with a severely handicapped Brussels Airport struggling to get back on its feet, they go on a STRIKE!?

They should all be fired.

There are some issues we are not aware of, like as for the policemen that refused to work under certain circumstances..
And it's not a strike, it's understaffing...

Excuse me, what do you call not turning up for work then?
Issues or not, this is not the time for unannounced strike action, and yes, that's what this is.
No wonder this country is going to the dogs.

Indeed. It's not understaffing. It's a strike. And given the circumstances, with an airport severely wounded after a terrible bomb attack, it's lijkenpikkerij. Disgusted. Really disgusted.

Yes, I'm a moderator, but this is to much.

Striking in these circumstances is unbelievable, unacceptable, irresponsible, stupid...

Those who are sick should all be fired and replaced by military controllers as Reagan did!

Oh yeah, they're sick... in their heads!

Couldn't agree more Stij. These people are playing with the livelihood of many thousands of employees, and of course completely ruining what was left of the reputation of the airport. They don't want to work till the age of 58? Well they won't have to if they carry on like this.

I'm scheduled to fly tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed...

Totally unacceptable, the people on strike should be fired today. Striking isn't necessary by any means. Our northern neighbors didn't have a strike that impacted flight operations in more than 10 years, then look at Belgium :( First BRU was hit by Muslims, and to add insult to injury now it's hit by the Christian union.

Looks like OO-SSV just departed from BRU. Is it over?

No! BRU twitter: "A limited number of flights will be possible between 17h45 & 19h45. Check your flight info & contact your airline".

To make it short, they were some negotiations going on, and 1 union signed an agreement "betraying" the 2 other ones and their members according to the medias.
