Saturday, the second day of labour action by Lufthansa's flight attendants led to the cancellation of 520 flights. Around 58,000 passengers were affected.
The walkout mainly affected Frankfurt airport, where almost all short- and medium-distance Lufthansa connections were cancelled.
Eighteen flights were grounded in Dusseldorf, including one long-haul flight to New York.
Other German airports were also affected when connecting inland flights failed to arrive.

Due to the strike of his cabin crew, Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr was compelled to fly on his competitor Air Berlin from Berlin to Munich today. He said he was offered a good seat on the plane.

An Air France passenger plane has made an emergency landing in Northern Ireland after it was diverted by stormy weather and ran low on fuel.
The flight with 93 people on board was originally bound for Dublin but was diverted to Belfast International Airport because of high winds.
It had circled Dublin Airport for a time before being sent to Belfast.
Belfast International Airport confirmed the flight landed safely and the emergency ended at 15:48 GMT.

(ça n'arrive pas qu'aux meilleurs ...) ;)

Luckily this happened to un des meilleurs, and not to a carrier that puts too much pressure on its pilots.

AF-1816 only landed in Belfast 1,5 hours after going into holding near Dublin!

And your point would be... ?

You cannot resist to spoil every topic into a Ryanair-bashing topic, can you?

1. I didn't mention any airline name.
2. It's not me who brought up this un des meilleurs here.

Air France said on Saturday that it will maintain all flights to and from France after attacks in Paris prompted the government to decree a state of emergency.
It said delays are to be expected due to the reinforcement of border controls by authorities.

KLM will introduce a fee for preseating on the cheapest Economy Class tickets on some intercontinental flights.

excluded for the fee: Economy passengers in Y-, B-, M-class
excluded for the fee: Flying Blue clients with Platinum, Gold or Silver status

Reason (according to KLM) is not to generate revenue, but to give more preseating choice for late bookers who, usually, pay a lot more for their tickets then the early bookers.

Having read that idiot argument , it will be also normal to pay a fee for using the toilet on board for the early bookers and not for the late bookers because they paid a lot more for their tickets , jeeez.....

Agree! Just a way to get additional ancillary revenues. Full stop. Airlines know the art of presenting bad news for most passengers as good news for a happy few...

Also in that article:

Free preseating will be possible as from 30 hours before departure.

Surcharge 20 € (one-way) will apply for flights after 26th Jan 2016 to Asia, Latin America and the Caribean. Other continents will follow, and then Europe will follow. At the end of 2016, it's on the whole network.

KLM hopes that most "cheap clients" will not pay the surcharge, but will wait till 30 hours before departure and then book the seating for free. Kreulen (KLM): "this will leave more seats choice available for high-fare-passengers, for groups and for families". (remark passenger: so this new surcharge will not apply for familie?...).

Air France will do the same as from 1st December. Kreulen (KLM): “other legacy carriers already do this".

Gunmen have taken 170 hostages in the Radisson Blue of Bamako (Mali). As a consequence, Air France has cancelled flights AF3852 and AF3873 to/from Bamako.

Six employees of Turkish Airlines are among the hostages.

Air France confirms that its 12 crew members in Bamako have been ex-filtered and taken to safety.

Indonesia's Lion Air grounds pilot for 'offering stewardess as compensation' for delay

JAKARTA (AFP) - An Indonesian airline has grounded a pilot after he allegedly offered a flight attendant to passengers as compensation for a delay on a flight to the resort island of Bali.

Loud moaning sounds were also heard from the cockpit throughout the Lion Air flight, with one passenger left so shocked that he lodged a complaint about improper behaviour with the transport ministry.

The passenger, Mr Lambertus Maengkom, said that as the plane took off late from Java island, the co-pilot jokingly announced over the PA system that he was offering a female, divorced flight attendant to passengers to make up for the delay.

German carrier Lufthansa, reeling under a series of recent strikes, said on Saturday that it had reached a wage rise accord with services sector union Verdi covering 30,000 ground staff.
The accord gives a one-off payment of 2,250 euros and a 2.2 percent wage rise to ground staff and employees of IT subsidiary Lufthansa Systems, Lufthansa Service catering, Lufthansa Technik maintenance and Lufthansa Cargo freight service, the airline and Verdi said.
The collective bargaining accord runs to the end of 2017.
