Re: Ryanair in 2015

Post by airazurxtror »

Ryanair announced that it had concluded 5 year pay agreements with all 76 of its pilot bases across Europe, and has now commenced a similar process with its cabin crew, after its 2 largest bases at Dublin and London Stansted airports voted (in secret ballot) to accept 5 year deals incorporating pay increases, improved rosters and rapid promotion opportunities.

Following weeks of direct negotiations between Ryanair and its elected cabin crew representatives, using long established collective bargaining structures, Ryanair’s cabin crew at its Dublin and London Stansted bases have voted, by over 90%, to accept new 5 year pay agreements which will deliver:
- Guaranteed pay and allowance increases each year over the next 4 years
- Improved fixed rosters with 5 days on, 3 days off (a bank holiday every week)
- Improved sickness benefits
- New cabin crew uniforms
- More promotion opportunities as Ryanair embarks on an 8 year, 400 aircraft acquisition program

1. Are these agreements valid for the majority of pilots, who are not employees of Ryanair but independent contractors?
2. Do the flight crew have to pay for their new uniforms?

Willie Walsh, chief executive of British Airways’ parent group IAG, revealed on Monday that he had discussed a deal on feeder flights with Ryanair.
Speaking at the Airport Operators Association conference in London, Walsh said: “If there is an opportunity to work with Ryanair I see no reason not to. If we can reach terms with Ryanair and customers want it, why not?
“But what’s key is that customers want it. We have said to Ryanair that we have no objection in principle to working with them.”
However, Walsh said any deal would not apply to Heathrow as Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary “has no interest in Heathrow”. He added that there had been no contact between IAG carriers and easyJet.

Hmm! What is the true answer to my question? Furthermore, despite the Ryanair press release, the details of the agreement remain secret...

Frankly, it's none of our business, but if you really must know :

The president of the Irish Airline Pilots’ Association, Captain Evan Cullen has been critical of Ryanair’s statement and negotiating process, he says the agreement relates to less than 50% of all 2,800 pilots in Ryanair, as it does not apply to contract workers.

When it's none of our business, why do you then post it here?

For the cabin crew the agreement is both for FR crew and for contractors.

And details of the agreement are indeed no one's business beside the people that have it

Lex,
The agreement between Ryanair and its pilots concerns us because it lessens the possibility of the pilots going on strike like they do at Lufthansa or Air France. That is most important for us, Ryanair customers - unlike the actual salary of the pilots which, in my view, is none of our business.
The agreement is for the pilots directly employed by Ryanair. The pilots under contract fulfill the contract they have signed, and that is it. They may terminate it if they so wish.

But that concerns only two bases (DUB and STN) out of 76. When comes your turn, Sean?

All bases will get to vote on the deal in the coming weeks.

A few weeks ago, "passenger" accused Ryanair of lying when they said they were talking with IAG about feeder flights for the group's long haul flights. Now, after Norwegian already confirmed that a deal was close, now Willie Walsh confirms that formal talks are taking place with Ryanair.

Actually, someone has just sent me via private message the full transcript from the meeting between British Airways and Ryanair. Altough I promised my source not to publish it, I'm going to do it now. This is the content, in full, of those formal talks: "bla bla bla bla bla".

Ryanair to cut its number of flights to Sardinia this summer : 12 routes to Alghero and 9 to Cagliari are to be cancelled.
