Ryanair B738 near Brussels on Feb 24th 2015, lightning strike

A Ryanair Boeing 737-800, registration EI-EFK performing flight FR-2932 from Lisbon (Portugal) to Brussels (Belgium), was descending towards Brussels around about 20:30L (19:30Z) when the aircraft received a lightning strike.

A post flight examination revealed damage to the radome requiring repairs.

The plane took off from Reus, Spain, and was scheduled to arrive at Charleroi at 21:30. But over the Pyrenees, the flight "was rocked by large, heavy turbulences," said a spokesman for Bordeaux airport.

Caught in a big air pocket, the plane was badly shaken and two hostesses were injured. One suffering from "back edge" and the other a broken ankle. The latter was wounded by a drinks trolley that struck her. They have both been hospitalized in a Bordeaux hospital.

On the passenger side, many have also been very shaken but there are no injuries. After waiting for several hours at Bordeaux airport, they were able to return to Charleroi via another Ryanair flight that came from Barcelona and was able to take them in charge. They took off from Bordeaux-Merignac at 01:24.

This morning around 10:00, Ryanair confirmed in turn the incident. Explaining that after having suffered "some turbulence," the plane was able to land normally.

"The medical staff took over two crew cabin with minor injuries", says the company. "A replacement aircraft and a rescue crew were sent from Barcelona to minimize the delay for customers, who received good refreshments in Bordeaux. Ryanair apologizes to all customers affected by this diversion and the delay incurred. "

The French BEA adjusts Ryanair's "minor injuries" into "serious injuries":

"...On Mar 3rd 2015 the French BEA reported in their weekly bulletin, that two flight attendants received serious injuries when the aircraft encountered severe turbulence while levelling off at FL380. The occurrence was rated an accident, the BEA is investigating...."

One had a broken ankle, the other two broken ribs. It's for everyone to decide what they think is a serious injury and what is not.

Think related to the duration of hospitalisation.
Zero to 3 (?) days = light
> 3 (?) days = severe.

Need to check and it may vary from country to country.
Same for "Deceased" that include those who died on the spot of the accident and up to 30 days after.

For sure EU will standardize all this, soon. After all a sub-commission succeeded (after a few years only) to agree on standard sizes for condoms throughout EU.

Carriers always tend to minimise injuries, however it's up to the investigatory boards (the French BEA in this case) to classify the seriousness of an injury. Fractures are almost always classified as "serious".

Looks like JAF has problems with its TFS flights: yesterday 4 hr late on departure to TFS, 6 hr late on arrival from TFS...

A passenger has already contacted the Flemish newspaper Het Nieuwsblad: crew told them the reason for the return was "a blocked fuel filter".

FN is currently flying BRU-JFK
FV is flying BRU-DKR
FW is flying BRU-NSI
FU is flying BRU-ABJ
FY is flying BRU-BJM-NBO (though currently not under FR24 cover).

FZ should be on the ground in Brussels, landed this morning, perhaps for MX.

FO is in LIS for a C-Check.
FM in Accra (?)

That's as far as I got, though I may be wrong, of course :)

Making additional tech stop in ACC to help out SFM.
That's why SN251 appeared to be cancelled on the Bru Airport website, the flight no. was replaced by SN1251.

Not really an abnormality as such, though it is quite interesting.
At this moment (1023 local), a Qatar 787 (A7-BCP) is on the platform at Brussels Airport to perform an engine run. I'm not sure why they are performing an engine run at BRU, the outbound flight is still scheduled on time at Brussels Airport, with the same aircraft.

Maybe because of this: Dust and sandstorms sweep across UAE and Qatar which affects flights departing from Dubai and Doha. Sand in the engines?
