A little bit off topic, but I would think that the first A380 possible destination for TK in Europe would be Berlin, and I'm pretty sure the new BBI airport (when it opens, but that's another question) will be able to accommodate the A380.

Based on ASK for this summer (so far), LHR is TK's biggest European route. The only European route with enough capacity to be in the top-15 routes of TK based on weekly ASK (obviously long haul routes get in that top-15 much more easy). LHR has 31 weekly flights and a combination of daily A330, daily 77W and 2-3 daily A321 (based on a quick check from my own for the a/c types).

So if there is one destination in Europe where TK can use the A380, it's LHR (also because they can't expand frequency there, unless they are willing to pay millions for a few extra weekly flights). TXL also has high capacity, from what I've seen 4 daily with a mix of A321, A320 and A330, but not as high as LHR.

Oh what a coincidence, in the news today, SAS will transfer one afternoon slot-pair to...yes Turkish Airlines for, hold your breath, almost 25 million Euro. TK will get the slots as from October 25, so the new winter season.

After another slot transaction early this month and this new one, SAS still has 19 daily slot-pairs at LHR and they are not planning to offload more of them.

This confirms what I meant in my previous post, it's very costly to grow in frequency at LHR, with this new slot-pair they can go up to 38 weekly flights, but TK will continue to grow and continue to take away pax to their Istanbul hub, so if they have e.g. the A380, this is a much better way to expand overthere. They already use their biggest aircraft for LHR on one of their daily flights.

Back to topic (Emirates):
A small remark, but an important one nevertheless, is that one shouldn't always just take corporate communication at face value, and there may be an underlying aim hidden in it.
In this case, there may be some aeropolitical arm twisting gong on behind the scenes, which could explain (too) why they are talking about going for the A380 for BRU, sort of a warning they won't back off: "if we don't get more access, we'll do this".
Remember the number of flights from their country to Belgium is limited (and probably won't be increased soon?), yet there are more than 1 airlines interested in those, so they don't just get them thrown at them, they need to earn them somehow, both from Belgium, and then from their own country too.

I'd say somewhere at the beginning to allow F and C pax to board directly from the upperfloor lounge area into the plane.

Something else I would like to see is the installation of double bridge jetways at the end of the B-pier (B37, B38 and B40) to cater for a quicker (de)boarding of bigger planes like the 77W or (maybe one day or the occasional) 744/8i...

If A pier West will be there one day, they'd have to install it directly, but in the meanwhile some of these gates at the B pier might prove handy...

I know BRU is capable of handling an A380 if the need arises, but I'm not sure whether the facilities at BRU are sufficient to handle an A380 on a daily basis?
Anybody with more info?

EK booking engine only shows the A388 for that specific day (18/9), all the rest still on 777. Interesting, system error or specific event?

One time visit (for now). Emirates would love to use A380 to BRU instead of B777.

Nope, currently only 07L/25R is suited for the A380, but after renovation 07R/25L will also be all right.

Will be a sporty VOR-approach when the 01 & the 07's are in use :o :)

The schedule will be slightly modified, probably to let more time at BRU to handle the higher number of passengers with the existing jetways:

Code: Select all

EK183 DXB0810 – 1315 BRU 388
EK184 BRU1615 – 0055+1DXB 388

C class on the EK 380 is awesome, by far superior to what European carriers offer. I have business friends who prefer a stop in DXB to a direct flight because travelling C class on EK 380 is so comfortable.
