Aer Lingus suffered an 8% fall in passengers carried on short-haul flights during December.
Aer Lingus claimed that the fall in short-haul passengers reflected changes to routes to protect profit margins. But even including a 20% rise in long-haul passenger numbers, the overall number of people boarding Aer Lingus flights dropped by 4.5% to 619,000 in December.

Not so for the whole year 2014:

"The total number of guests who chose to fly with Aer Lingus (including Aer Lingus Regional) last year was 11.1 million. This is the first time ever that we've broken the 11 million mark. This figure is up 3% compared to 10.7 million passengers in 2013."

Hamburg Airways suspends flight operations

The German Civil Aviation Authority suspended the air operator’s certificate (AOC) for Hamburg Airways shortly before Christmas. The carrier’s last flight was operated from Moscow to Hanover on Dec. 19.

The leisure carrier operated four Airbus A320s, mostly on behalf of tour operators.

Privately owned Hamburg Airways was founded in December 2010 and started flights in March 2011. It was the successor of Hamburg International, which declared insolvency in October 2010.

Air France has cancelled the flight Paris-Kinshasa today, due to the troubles in progress in the congolese capital city. The flight of wednesday will be flown if the situation has improved.

Why is the call sign of British Airways "Speedbird" ?

British Airways was the result of the merger of BEA (British European Airways) and BOAC (British Overseas Airways Corporation). And the latter had a speedbird as logo.

The BOAC Speedbird motif still exists at Hatton Cross subway station on the Piccadilly Line (adjacent to BA's engineering and maintenance base).

And, btw, Hatton Cross was the temporary end station of the Piccadilly Line before it was extended to Heathrow.

The new Transavia livery will be presented tomorrow.

However, Transavia decided to have the first aircraft flown over from the paintshop in Norwich during day time, hence:

Always or only today?

There has been that accident in Albacete where 8 French pilots were killed and many others injured (see military forum: https://www.aviation24.be/forums/viewtopic ... 15&t=55562)
