HKG - MUC - BRU A340-600 and ERJ-195

Post by Kapitein »

HKG – MUC
Flight: LH731
Aircraft: Airbus A340-600 D-AIHV
Flighttime: 13 hours
Loadfactor: 85% in eco

Time to come back home. The choice was to fly over MUC since I had never flown the A340-600.
Check in and Security went all smooth in HKG, not much people around at that moment. So we went to our departure gate. Little walk, trainride and again a little walk, but that’s HKG I guess.

After boarding we pushed back 15 min early. Flighttime was estimated at 13 hours, due to strong headwinds. After a long taxi we took off on 07R just behind LH797. After departure we turned around everywhere, pretty nice to see it on the routemap. And great outsideview with all those lights beneath.

Climbing to cruise went smooth.

Legroom on the A346 is again ok, not touching the seat in front is already positive. And since the flight wasn’t full I had 2 seats for me this time.

After a while the mealservice began, again 2 choice for dinner:
- Chicken in sweat and soar sauce with beans and mashed potatoes
- Noodles with pork

Since I had enough noodles and rice eaten the last 2 weeks I choose for the chicken with mashed potatoes.
This was really nice and tastier then on the outbound flight from FRA. Again good choices for drinks.

IFE was same as on the FRA flight, touchscreen, great selection of movies, etc.

After mealservice I could sleep quite a while, so time went by very easy.

A nice idea on the A346 is the downstairs toiletspace. Much better then when they are at the back off the airplane. You can walk around there a bit and chatting on the comfort way.
Same servicestandards on this flight as on the outbound FRA flight.

Breakfast was served and my choice went for scrambled eggs.

Landed nice on time in MUC on 26R. We had a connectiontime of 1u20 so, it could be getting sharp. But after passing the passport control and security we had more than enough time for our flight to BRU.

MUC – BRU

Flight: LH2282
Aircraft: ERJ-195 D-AEBF
Flighttime: 01h00
Loadfactor: 76 pax

Boarding with busses to a remoteparking in cold rain, hard after 14 days of sunny weather. Taxi to 26R for the short flight to BRU.
A small breakfast was served wich was a cherryfruitcake and coffee. More than enough for this flight.

Landed nice on time in BRU on 25L.

Holiday was over.

Resume:
Like said before, I like flying LH overall.
Seats on this A346 where softer then on the 748I but getting uncomfy after a 13h flight. But I guess that’s pretty normal.
MUC is a great airport as O&D pax and for connecting pax.
Flying the ERJ-195 is also pretty nice, great legroom and it’s comfy to.

Hi Kapitein,
Nice reports.
HKG is also one of my favorites. Although I used to travel there a lot more in the past than now, unfortunately.
Glad to hear you like LH and particulary MUC. Together with ZRH it is absolutely the best airport for smooth transfer connections. For a next trip you could try LX for a change ;). Great service too, maybe even better than LH. Aircraft on the other hand probably A340-300. Personally I prefer the A340-600.
Don't know when the B777 will be delivered at LX, but I suppose HKG would be one of the potential destinations for the B777.

Nice report indeed. I also like the LH A346: great aircraft (I had D-AIHA from DXB to MUC). And the ERJ-195 from MUC to BRU is as comfortable as it can be for a short-haul route.

So, you flew to HKG for vacation? Excellent: I still have to discover that city (and country).

Thx CRJ900.
Well, love to try LX once, but to beat my ticketprices (flight + hotel) at LH that's rather unpossible for LX. But never say never ofcourse.

HKG was kind of a citytrip, rather far I know but after HKG we flew to Thailand to visit a friend of mine who lives overthere now.

Hongkong is pretty nice. We stayed at Hongkong Island wich is more financial related but nice to spend your time. But wen you go to Kowloon you get more the Hongkong feeling I expected. Crowded, a bit off chaos but always organized :).
And the public transport is very easy, cheap and a lot. You can get to every place you want in a good time and on a easy way and there is everywhere great food.
Like you already saw, we did a organized foodtour wich gave a good experience of the local food.

P.S. Hong Kong is amazing! Did you visit Macau as well?

Yes we visit Macau to.
Went to the casino the area, wanted to see how the managed it overthere after seeing Las Vegas. One word: Crazy ;)
When you see old Taipa it looks really cozy overthere. Loved it to

Am I the only person who thinks that airport is an absolute dump? I remember when we were there last year - finding a toilet (I refuse to use the term "bathroom") was a nightmare. The sign to the toilet led nowhere. Another toilet was closed with no information about an alternative toilet. For a so-called "advanced" country, Munich Airport is a primitive ****hole. It was wonderful to fly in and out of BRU this year, my God I missed Brussels when we were stuck in that miserable, Godforsaken dump Munich last year.
Sabena and Sobelair - gone but never forgotten.
