Jetairfly in 2014

International expansion for Jetairfly, with flights from Germany and Ireland

In addition to Belgium, Jetairfly was already operating flights from France, The Netherlands and Morocco.

Jetairfly is now set to launch two new services to Palma de Mallorca in Summer this year. The Belgian carrier is operating a weekly service to the Balearic Island from Münster/Osnabrück from April 13, while a new Cork service will start on May 3, 2014. Both routes are flown by a B737-800W.

And airlineroute.net also mentions 2 weekly flghts to TLV for this summer, in competition with the planned SN expansion then.

Hi,
Wasn't Corsair the French TUI department ?
Or did they left the TUI Group, still remember their 747 and their TUI blue and smileys ...
So, why is Jetairfly taking over France?
Still nice to see Belgiums Jetairfly and hollands Transavia taking over some French marketshare haha..
It doesn't have always be the other way...

I don't know if Corsair still flies for TUI (I believe so, although they moved away from the TUI brand and things like that and changed their route network quite a bit). But Corsair always had a widebody fleet anyway...not exactly the kind of aircraft you would operate on the routes JAF will now serve.

Corsair International, the former Corsairfly, has indeed decided to part ways with the TUI group. This has actually happened quite some time ago already. (hence the new livery, without TUI branding).
Not a lot has changed in the eyes of the passengers, if I'm informed correctly. However, the TUI group now has no representation on a pretty large part of the European tourism market (except for a few ex Jet4you flights).
I'd say that's probably why Jetairfly is expanding into France.

EDIT:
Some TUI travel packages still depart on Corsair flight, but not not in the huge numbers they used to, If I remember correctly.

The President of The European Commission José Manuel Barroso flew with Jetairfly to Athens today, on board of the E190 "Navigator", thanks to The Aviation Factory.

AFAIK Corsair International is still a brand of TUI Travel plc. However, in Q1 2012 it was decided to retarget the airline and move away from the leisure market, into the scheduled airline business. Hence, the trading name was changed from Corsairfly into Corsair.

I think that JAF should as well be rebranded, indeed JAF is doing the majority or the flight on behalve of the TO Jetair but in the mean time, since a few year, JAF started to expand internationally and for othe TO than Jetair such as Air Pristhina for the flight to Skopje and Pristina. JAF is as well serving a lot of ethnic flights that you can't find in the Jetair package.

A rebranding of this airlines would help to not consider it like a full holiday airlines, but like a charter airlines.

Jetairfly in esence is still the airline of TUI Belgium and therefore has to represent the local TUI brands. TUI is so big due to the holidays they sell, not because of the non-package airline tickets they sell, the airlines that operate under TUI should represent the local TUI brands. Jetair is a very strong brand in Belgium and Belgium will always remain the key market of JAF, so I don't see any reason to get rid of that name.
The difference with Corsair is that Corsair was not succesfull, that's not something that can be said of JAF.

Besides, I think JAF is already quite a strong brand in France and Morocco for example (the two main markets from where they serve non-Belgium routes), also in the Netherlands quite some people are familiar with the name Jetair or Jetairfly.

Are there any new aircraft foreseen this year to join their fleet? New Embraer or Boeing?

Yes 2 new aircraft will join the fleet. The first one will join the fleet by the end of february (OO-JEF - factory new) and a second will follow later this spring (OO-JOS). Both A/C will be Boeing 737 NG's. But OO-JEF will be in the hanger the first few days for a modif to strengthen the wing prior to Scimitar Winglet installation.
The rest of the newer 737's will get this modification as well.

JEF and JOS thus! There goes the tradition of JE* for Embraers, JA* for 737s (and JD* for the Dreamliner).

Glad to see JAF immediately adopted the Scimitar split winglets to be at the top of advanced technology.

Is it correct to assume that OO-JEF is a 737-800 and OO-JOS a 737-700?

Just a question: If it's factory new why aren't they installed by Boeing?
How much further can they reduce fuel consumption compared to 'traditional' winglets?

Hi Sai,

According to United Airlines the scimitar winglet will reduce the fuel of any B737NG on which they are retrofitted by 2%. Assuming an average fuel burn of 2.000kgs/hr and 4.000 hours of flight per year per A/C, that would save 160 tons of fuel per aircraft per year. That is the equivalent of 200.000 liters or 52.800 US gallons (rounded down). At 2.89$ to the gallon (hypothesis) that's an annual saving of 150k$ per year pear plane (rounded down). Their website mentions a fleet of 17 B737NG's, so the annual savings when the entire fleet is retrofitted could accumulate to 2.5m$...Now that's worthwhile talking about, isn't it?

The above only considers direct financial benefits, but there must also be indirect benefits which play a - albeit smaller - role in the decision:
> from an ops perspective: improved range, performance (climb gradient, TORR, TODR,...), lower stall speed,...
> from a commercial perspective: higher payload
>...

I see some small potential disadvantages that have to do with the reduced wingtip clearance, but I'm insufficiently knowledgeable about the subject to draw any conclusions. the potential disadvantages according to me are a higher risk for collisions of ground equipment near the wingtips and a potentially reduced cross-wind capability. Hardly sufficient arguments not to invest in them, if you ask me.

 Impressive, thanks! 1.5 K/aircraft is a lot...offcourse it also depends of the cost of installing them probably.

Are these two for expansion, or will the replace two current (older) 737's in the fleet (possibly after the bussy summer season)?

And will all 737's be retrofitted with the new winglets or just those of let's say the last 3 years (just an example)?

Boeing doesn't fit the 737's with scimitar winglets yet.

They will replace OO-JBV (for the moment in C-check and will not return to JAF) and OO-JAN which will leave the fleet after the summer season.
For the moment the most recent NG's will get the scimitar winglets . OO-JAF will be the oldest NG to receive the modif.

Thanks. So these two are the last pre-2007 737's to be replaced, isn't it? That would make OO-JAP the only aircraft in the fleet which was built before 2007. Quite a young fleet I would say :P

It will also be nice to see the new winglets at BRU, with TUI one of the first big clients of that type of winglet (the others I know are all outside of Europe: United, Southwest, Alaska Airlines and Air Transat).
