Report from The Aviation Herald:

Incident: Brussels RJ1H at Brussels on Jan 14th 2014, could not fully retract landing gear

A Brussels Airlines Avro RJ-100, registration OO-DWJ performing flight SN-2303 from Brussels (Belgium) to Stockholm Bromma (Sweden), was climbing out of Brussels' runway 25R when the crew stopped the climb at FL070 reporting an unsafe gear after departure. The aircraft entered a hold to burn off fuel and returned to Brussels for a safe landing about 70 minutes after departure.

A replacement RJ-100 registration OO-DWG reached Stockholm with a delay of 130 minutes.

The airline confirmed a minor technical issue

OO-SFZ performing the flight SN 501 to JFK is going back to Brussels after 3 hours and half of flight just at the level of Iceland. Intersting to know the reasons of this come back... and cross the fingers it's not a major problem but just for safety!

Curious... Now SFZ is going ahead and is above Greenland... but the US Aiways 767-2 operating Brussels to Philadelphia seems going back to Brussels on Flightradar 24 and also a BAW 747. Sure it's due to wrong signals from an aeronautical beacon...

Technical problems on the SN A330's ? why so difficult to accept ? The 330's flying with us have the oldest serial numbers in the world ! Look up immatriculations at airframes.org
It will become still worse in the future, the planning for 1 extra ( more recent) version of a 330 is put on hold... no money....

Try and see it from a customers perspective maybe? They dont care if an airplane is young or old, they only want a good reliable service, which at this time is not bei,g provided to them by SN. This brand damage also costs them money, perhaps more then they want to admit.

I heard that all the SN aircrafts are leased, is it common for a european company ? Rumours are going that SN is the only company (providing intercontinental flights) in western Europe, that can not afford to buy aircrafts, true ?

Rumours are that this topic is becoming just another one of those anti Brussels Airlines topics.

Maybe you should stop trying to stop every topic that doesn't go the direction you want. Nothing anti SN has been said. Shall I post a list of all the topics you tried to turn into anti FR topics?

Any idea what the reason was for sure?

regardless whether somebody posts anti-SN or anti-RF stuff; posting it here it is definitely off topic as this thread is meant to discuss abnormalities happening at a Belgian airport.

That I'd like to know too!
Given none of these planes actually did come back, I wonder: did those planes really make 2 u-turns, or was it just a technical problem with the tracking software?

Strange post for someone who has just joined luchtzak.be. Anyway, would be great if you would get your facts right. Not Brussels Airlines, but Dragonair seems to have the oldest A330’s in service. And a lot of other bona fide carriers use A330 of about the same age as those from Brussels Airlines.
http://www.airfleets.net/listing/a330-1.htm

Unlike what you suggest, technical problems in general do not depend from the age of aircraft: see the 787 battery problems, see the A380 engine problems a few years ago. Both VLM's fleet of F-50 and British Airways' fleet of 747-400 are older then Brussels Airlines' A330. Does that make them unreliable? No, because both maintenance and fleet surveillance at VLM and British Airways are top – just like at Brussels Airlines.

What rumours please? There’s another guy here who regularly posts the same kind of posts (although you have the fairness of calling it "rumours"). But would be great to post such general anti Brussels Airlines posts based upons vague “rumours” without giving any further source in the "Luchtzak Pub".

But yes, some airlines “own” aircraft and some lease them. Although… it’s the bank that owns the aircraft, till the last payment has been done. What one needs to know to compare, is the real value in the books. Buying an aircraft can work out more expensive then leasing an aircraft and buy it from the lessor at the end of the contract (like VLM is going to do). But if so many airlines prefer to lease, there must be a good reason, won't you think so? And that's probably more then just "cannot afford to buy", because an airline has to give financial guarantuees for both options.

to Sean: I always tray to stay on topic, also when Ryanair is discussed. The discussion here became off topic and needed to be posted in "Brussels Airlines next A330", hence my reaction.

SN 501 to JFK does not appear on the screen of departures today.
It's a daily flight. A333 was already downsized in A332 and now, reduction from daly to 6 times a week?

It looks like OO-SFW has been AOG for quite some time. Problem? Scheduled maintenance?

Ryanair FR-1389 Bordeaux-Charleroi 17h20-18h55 is cancelled “Due to ATC strike”, Ryanair.com states. However, Air France AF-5320 Bordeaux-Brussels landed at about the same time: 17h25 (ETA 17h15). So apparently no ATC strike for them?

FR-6099 Rygge/Oslo-Charleroi 16h40-18h40 is cancelled “Due to ATC strike”, Ryanair.com states. However, SAS SK4745 Oslo-Brussels arrived in Brussels on time (18h25 -> 18h27) and Brussels Airlines SN2284 had a 2 hour delay (19h40 -> 21h39). So apparently no ATC strike for them?
