Air Europa confirmed its plans to convert 8 options for the Dreamliner into firm orders. They already have 8 orders for the base version of the Dreamliner and now want to order 8 787-9's. The new aircraft will arrive from 2020 onwards to cope with the increased expansion plans of the Spanish airline.

(btw, on Wikipedia (I know I know) they mention Air Europa as having 12 788's on order, these 4 will probably be leased?)

In the first nine months of 2013, Air Europa welcomed 10.5 million passengers, according to airport operator AENA, this is about 450,000 more than Iberia in the same period. Of course Iberia still has daughtercompanies that are probably not included in the Iberia numbers, but still clearly showing the booming business of Air Europa compared to the struggling Iberia.

Another possible incident happened about an hour ago. Flight LO004 from ORD to WAW landed at CFB (Goose Bay, Canada). It was just above the ocean when the plane made a U turn and landed at the nearest airport (CFB)

Well, based on the picture, either that panel was never there or it was by far not sealed as it should be as there seems to be little to no reall damage except for the missing panel. No damage was found, they apperently took a panel from another 787 due to the lack of spare parts in Bangalore and they flew back to Delhi...
Maintenance or manufactering issue?
Indeed human error, an engineer forgot to screw the panel back on after an inspection.

According to the incident report I read it turned out to be a panel from a 737 and nothing to do with the Dreamliner.

This was expected due to the high demand, but never confirmed before. Boeing intends to increase 787 production beyond 10/month. 12/month in 2016 and 14/month before the end of the decade is the intention.
Especially with the 787-10, increased production is a must for Boeing.

Despite a significant period of heavy fog around PAE in October, Boeing still managed to get 9 deliveries in that month. The 100-mark will be reached this week probably as there are currently 98 Dreamliners delivered.

Boeing managed to deliver 49 787's this year by the end of October (3 more than in 2012 as a whole). The target of 60+ can be reached by the end of November, at least if the push-back (some late-September deliveries were delayed until early October and that resulted in some October deliveries beying pushed to early November) effect doesn't affect the November deliveries too much (something which could push OO-JDL to early December).

Meanwhile all 3 test 787-9's have been rolled out (of which the first one flew for about 150 hours already). ZB002 should be flying this week or next week, with all 3 of them full in flight test campaign by the end of the year. First delivery to Air New Zealand on shedule for April 2014.

Air India took delivery of a 787 yesterday and currently there is a 787 of JAL Japan Airlines at the delivery center (JA821J) and it has a flight plan filled for its delivery flight to NRT. So it seems JAL will soon be the owner of the 100th delivered 787.

LOT is decidedly unlucky with its Dreamliners. One of them was grounded in Bangkok on Tuesday due to a power supply problem. The plane had been due to land in Warsaw on Tuesday morning (yesterday).

The aircraft does not receive power when connected to the external power supply from the airport. Since this is not an airport where LOT operates on a regular basis, resolving such a fault takes more time, said a LOT spokeswoman.

She said the plane's passengers would be flown to Poland on other aircraft on Wednesday (today).

The second 787-9 is scheduled to make its first flight today (Pacific time) for 6 hours from Snohomish County (KPAE) to Grant Co Intl (KMWH).

To be followed live: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/BOE2

Edit:

After a short taxi, ZB002 went back to the stand. The first flight was held for precaution after fuel filter indication on the left engine. Boeing will try again tomorrow if weather is OK.....

After a short taxi-test, ZB002 returned to its stand. So it seems it will take a little longer.

It is already known that Air New Zealand will be the first 787-9 customer.

Air New Zealand has now announced that the first 787-9 route will be from Auckland (New Zealand) to Perth (Australia), from 15 October 2014. This route is currently operated with a B777-200.

Air New Zealand also said that the next routes for the 787-9s (of which it ordered 10 units) will be from Auckland to Shanghai and Tokyo, to begin by the end of 2014.

Air New Zealand's 787-9s will have 302 seats, comprising 18 lie-flat seats in Business Premier class, 21 premium economy seats in a 2-3-2 layout, and 263 in economy (3-3-3 with 17in. width, i.e. less than the 18in. recommended by Airbus for long-haul).

A new battery problem on a JAL 787!

A Japan Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner flight from Helsinki to Tokyo experienced problems with the same type of battery that caught fire in Boston in January and grounded the 787 fleet worldwide for three months.

The battery on JAL flight 414 on Friday did not overheat or emit smoke, but a cockpit indicator showed trouble with the battery connected to the plane's auxiliary power unit during the flight.

Inspections of the battery, which was removed and replaced, were continuing. No comment from Boeing so far.

Edit: From The Aviation Herald: JAL Battery "Incident"
We are aware of flight JL-414 and the associated statement by JAL about indication of an APU battery problem indication on JL-414 of Nov 8th 2013, no battery anomaly whatsoever was found however, no coverage.

In other news, Air India plans to upgrade the software in all its 10 Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets from December. Air India says there is "no problem" with their Dreamliner jets and that the software upgrade is a routine process. The upgraded software will be installed when the planes are on the ground for two-to-three days for regular maintenance checks.

Boeing says it will take about another 6 months to resolve many of the current reliability problems of the 787. Boeing is working on the glitch-prone hardware and software, but these things run all the way back in the supply chain and as a result take time.
Especially the software causes a lot of problems and generates such a huge amount of data, including date which makes pilots worry about the systems that are actually more reliable than they appear. Bentrott (vice-president of sales for Boeing Commercial): "With that intense amount of information, it causes them to perhaps be a little bit more concerned about certain functions or certain technical glitches, which, if you just make some changes in the software, you can deal with those problems".

http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articl ... ng-393117/

Boeing follows every 787 in operation in a real-time operations center, so it's not a matter of where (most of) the problems occur (which hardware systems/parts, which software glitches, ...), but how to resolve them and that's a phase which consumes a lot of time.
