Le Bourget Air Show is coming soon, any idea of the main deal which could be made this year ? Are there already some signed LOIs which need to be converted into definitive orders ? Is there any speculation about mega orders ?
With regards to the A350/787 battle, any idea of how could the 787 issues could affect Boeing's order book at Le Bourget if the issues are not solved soon ?

Lufthansa eyeing a massive order, any idea of when this order would take place ? Is LH going to wait for Le Bourget to pass its order ?
In my opinion, advantage for Airbus for the short-haul order, for the long haul, I see it between 748 and A380 since the replacement of A340/330 would imply a more significant order than 8 planes.

Re: Le Bourget - Sales Expectation
The 8 widebodies are still rumoured to be two extra A380's (they have two options) and a replacement for part of the LX A340-fleet. Rumoured to be 6 77W's, but at the time that was said, Lufthansa said they were still talking with both Boeing and Airbus.
But of course, if the problems are still present by June. Airlines will not wait to announce their orders for the A350, while planned 787 orders might be hold back until some months later. So that might contribute to a bigger win for Airbus in Paris. After all, the airshows are always the 'big announcement events' for Airbus, while Boeing always holds back more.
Airlines will probably wait before they order new 787's. But that doesn't mean the A350 will see more orders than in the case without the 787 problems. No airline indicated they don't want the 787 anymore because of the problems. And Airbus said they don't see any more interest in the A350 since the problems with the 787 started, compared to the period before the problems started.Unilitha2 wrote: With regards to the A350/787 battle, any idea of how could the 787 issues could affect Boeing's order book at Le Bourget if the issues are not solved soon ?

Re: Le Bourget - Sales Expectation
It is unlikely that the A350 and the CSeries will be ready for the Air Show. Pity! Bad news for Bombardier and Airbus.
However, if the 787 is allowed by FAA to fly again, two Dreamliners might make the trip to Le Bourget, one from Boeing and one from Qatar.

Re: Le Bourget - Sales Expectation
The ceo of EADS already commented on this some weeks ago by saying a miracle would be needed to get the A350 at the airshow. And that it's all very nice to show them overthere, but nothing more, it never was a goal to be in the air on time for Le Bourget.
But it's a pitty of course, would have been nice to have the A350 and first CS100 at the airshow.
Let's hope at least the 787's will make it...

Boeing and Qatar Airways will be showcasing a Boeing 787 Dreamliner at the Paris Air Show which begins on June 17. Boeing is hoping to have the advantage as their competitor, Airbus, is not planning to have their new A350 XWB participate in a fly by nor on static display.RoMax wrote:Let's hope at least the 787's will make it...

VT-ANN (LN90), an undelivered 787 for Air India flew recently under a flight number that's normally only used for marketing purpose flights or for air shows (including preperation flights for air shows). So this may be the one to be present in Paris next month. Tough it's just speculation based on the flight number it used (Boeing did simular flights with the Qatar 787 that was at Farnborough last year).sn26567 wrote: Boeing and Qatar Airways will be showcasing a Boeing 787 Dreamliner at the Paris Air Show which begins on June 17. Is the A350 ready? Just for fly-by?

That's not sure yet, although I'm sure Airbus will do anything to get that done.quixoticguide wrote:Is the A350 ready? Just for fly-by?

Air France-KLM to commit to 25 A350s at Paris Air Show
Airbus Industrie is expecting Air France-KLM to sign an order for 25 A350XWB aircraft along with 35 options at the upcoming Paris Air Show. According to the Wall Street Journal, the deal is estimated to be worth USD7.2billion.
The deal has seen a number of set backs since its announcement back in 2011, largely due to a dispute with Rolls Royce. Air France-KLM say they are still in negotiations with the engine manufacturer regarding terms of a maintenance contract for the engines on the 25 aircraft.

Re: Le Bourget 2013 - Sales Expectation
I think the most over-hyped even was the the so called sale of 20 of the A380s.
Once you dig into the deal, its really a pass through with Doric. So, Leahy is spinning it as a success when in fact it masks the issue.
Boeing has been proven right in that there is very limited need for those and their lack of flexibility and inability to carry significant belly freight. The latest revamp was to free up some belly space to assist that. Emirates is the only operator that makes it work in numbers and thats a unique position.
Doric list not time line of sales, no firm orders, nothing. In essence, if Doric can secure an A380 lease placement, Airbus will sell them one, then take it back, refurbish it for the next customer all part of the package (as the suites are operator specific, very expensive and do not transfer its a big cost) .
Of deep interest was the fact that Doric listed 2.5 million a month lease rate (Euros?). A rough calc using US dollars for rough numbers says 30 million a year. Cost of an A380? $380 million.
So, in 4 years, you get 120 million, double that and you have paid for it (not counting interest).
8 year to simply repay the original amount and that does not count interest. Phew. Its no wonder no leases want to buy them.
Boeing is having an equally tough time with the 747 though cushioned somewhat by Freighter sales and backlog. Obviously the 747 is not going to sell big either. Big question is will the freighter sales make up for the lack of Pax? Stay tuned. Boeing had a good record of improving the aircraft and the economics are very good compared to the A380 as it can generate fright revenue.
its the same issue as the A380, one trick ponies on certain routes and airports and no flexibility to shift to a different route or market without big costs.
