Boeing 787 at Paris
Boeing’s brand new 787 is expected to be the star of the Paris Air Show which gets under way Monday 20 June. Details have still to be released of Le Bourget happenings which will probably include a fully configured ready for service passenger aircraft. Boeing, together with launch customer ANA, unveiled plans last week for a series of route proving flights from 4 July with the aircraft based at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport.
Using the second flight test aircraft, known as ZA002, they will simulate in-service operations across several airports in Japan in a service ready operational validation. Anticipated city pairs include trips between Haneda and airports in Osaka (Itami and Kansai), Okayama and Hiroshima.
First rolled out in August 2007 the 787 was initially planned for introduction during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In spite of production delays the aircraft has still set pre-certification records with 835 firm orders to date and options taking it well past the 1,000 mark.

Boeing's two new 747-8 airplane models – the Intercontinental passenger version and the Freighter version – will make their international debuts at the Paris Air Show, joining the innovative 787 Dreamliner as highlights of the company's presence during the show. Also on display at the biennial aerospace exhibition, which begins June 20 at Le Bourget, will be an Air Berlin 737-700 with the new Boeing Sky Interior, a Qatar Airways Boeing 777-200LR – the longest-range passenger jetliner in the world – the C-17 Globemaster III military airlifter, the F-15E Strike Eagle multi-role fighter jet, and the CH-47F Chinook heavy-lift helicopter.

The 747-8 Intercontinental passenger jet, sporting its distinctive "Sunrise" livery, will arrive June 19, just three months after its first flight, and be on static display until the evening of June 21. The 747-8 Freighter will arrive June 20 and be on display for the following two days.
Boeing will deliver the first 747-8 freighter to Cargolux later this summer. The first 747-8 Intercontinental will be delivered in the fourth quarter to a VIP customer, and Lufthansa will be the first airline to receive an Intercontinental in early 2012.
The 787 flight-test airplane ZA001 featuring the full Dreamliner livery will be on static display June 22-23. Launch customer ANA will receive its first 787 in August or September.
Together these five Boeing commercial airplane models embody the technology and innovation that Boeing is bringing to market to reduce operating costs for airlines while revolutionizing the travel experience for passengers around the world.
The Boeing military aircraft will be part of the U.S. Department of Defense display throughout the show.

Media are welcome to visit the EADS Press Chalet at Row A (366-368) for covering commercial announcements and media events throughout the week. Airbus will hold its sum-up press conference on Thursday, June 23rd, starting at 11:00 in the Air Show Conference Centre (Hall 2C - Auditorium).

On Thursday June 23rd at 10:00, the winners of Airbus’ second worldwide student challenge “Fly Your Ideas” will be announced. The five finalists this year are teams from Chile, China, India, Malaysia and Sweden.

The International Paris Air Show – Paris Le Bourget runs from Monday, June 20, to Thursday, June 23, for trade visitors, and Friday, June 24, to Sunday, June 26, for public visitors. In 2011, the air show expects over 2,000 exhibitors, including the top 100 companies in the industry.
The Bombardier chalet is located at A256, and will be closed on Sunday, June 26. The static display is located at D128 and will include a state-of-the-art CSeries pavilion, featuring a new cabin mock-up. It will be closed on Saturday, June 25, and Sunday, June 26.
Business Aircraft
Bombardier has over 580 business jets based in Europe, representing a market share of over 26 per cent. With the recent launch of its Global 7000 and Global 8000 jets and the ongoing development of the Learjet 85 aircraft and Global Vision flight deck, which was granted certification from Transport Canada on June 3, 2011, Bombardier is poised for further growth worldwide.

Bombardier’s recently published financial results for the first quarter* of fiscal year 2011 show further evidence of positive momentum, reflected by 77 net orders for business aircraft and 37 deliveries between February 1 and April 30, 2011. In addition, the May 2011 General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) shipment report showed Bombardier Aerospace as the market leader in the business aircraft market categories in which it competes, in both revenues (40 per cent) and units delivered (39 per cent), during the first three months of calendar year 2011.
Commercial Aircraft

Over 2,800 Dash 8/Q-Series turboprops, CRJ Series regional jets and CSeries aircraft have been ordered by operators worldwide, including over 500 that are in service or on order with more than 35 European operators.

Bombardier is also the only jet manufacturer providing training on its aircraft, offering nine facilities worldwide. This extensive support network is complemented by cost-per-flight-hour budget protection solutions, known as Smart Services. Business and commercial aircraft customers also benefit from Maintenance Repair Overhaul (MRO) services in Belfast, Dallas and Wichita. Bombardier aircraft on static display:
Learjet 60 XR aircraft: The Learjet 60 XR aircraft is a proven model of performance, comfort, value and technology in the midsize jet market segment. It delivers a high cruise speed of Mach 0.81 (861 km/hr), superior climb capabilities, proven fuel efficiency and low direct operating costs per nautical mile**. The jet’s higher operating altitudes – certified to 51,000 ft (15,545 m) – translate to time savings due to better winds, less traffic and less turbulence.
Challenger 300 aircraft: This first true super midsize aircraft offers transcontinental range and superior long-range cruise speed, with eight passengers. It can fly Paris-Dubai non-stop with a full payload and its superior airfield performance allows it to operate out of 5,000-foot (1,524-m) runways with ease**. The Challenger 300 jet offers the best performance and value in its class combined with dispatch reliability consistently over 99.7 per cent – this aircraft has exceeded customer expectations since its entry-into-service in 2004.
Global 6000 aircraft: The Global 6000 business jet, formerly the Global Express XRS, features the recently certified Global Vision flight deck and the largest cabin of any purpose-built corporate aircraft – offering more cabin volume and more floor space than its closest competitor. The International Paris Air Show – Paris Le Bourget runs from Monday, June 20, to Thursday, June 23, for trade visitors, and Friday, June 24, to Sunday, June 26, for public visitors. In 2011, the air show expects over 2,000 exhibitors, including the top 100 companies in the industry.
The Bombardier chalet is located at A256, and will be closed on Sunday, June 26. The static display is located at D128 and will include a state-of-the-art CSeries pavilion, featuring a new cabin mock-up. It will be closed on Saturday, June 25, and Sunday, June 26.
Business Aircraft
Bombardier has over 580 business jets based in Europe, representing a market share of over 26 per cent. With the recent launch of its Global 7000 and Global 8000 jets and the ongoing development of the Learjet 85 aircraft and Global Vision flight deck, which was granted certification from Transport Canada on June 3, 2011, Bombardier is poised for further growth worldwide.

It seems Boeing and Bombardier are both sending quite some "hardware" to Paris this year compared to previous years. But without doubt this will be Airbus' show (again). AirAsia may order up to 200 A320NEO's, Indigo is said to finalise its order for up to 200 A320(NEO)'s and without doubt other big/nice orders will also come.
Possibly also Air France/KLM will place a massive order, altough that's more something for July according to the rumours (comming from an inside source). AF-KL will order up to 100 aircraft to replace the A340's, B744's and MD11's (and possibly some others). It is said this order will equally be split between the B787 and the A350. It is said that both AF and KL prefer the B787 (KL previously ordered B789 trough RBS but RBS pulled back from the leasing market and AF doesn't like RR engines, the only engine choice for the A350 and AF was angry because Airbus said AF made faults in their training wich may caused the A332 crash), but of course they will not only buy Boeing (some French politicans even did a petition in the French parlement to let AF buying A350's). It stays Air FRANCE.
Boeing sending both the B748F and B748i may mean they have also something to announce, but I don't really expect that they will announce something very big. (btw, the Air China order for 5 B748i's is still not firmed as the Chinese government still has to aggree. Shortly after the black boxes of the A332 were recovered there was an article in the French press wich claimed that Airbus said that Air France may have training problems (as the pilots didn't react as they should have reacted according to Airbus) wich resulted in the crash. Air France really didn't like this. I'm searching for the article, but there are SO many recent articles about the AF crash, so it's not easy to find the specific article I'm talking about.diminbru wrote:

I can understand their reaction. If (most) of American carriers buy boeing only, why can't (some) European carriers do the same?

According to Bloomberg, Hong Kong Airlines will order the A380 at the Paris Air Show 2011 as it challenges Cathay Pacific Airways and adds flights in China.

Well, after the A380 winglet clipped off at BKK during a test flight I think in 2007,
after having chopped the tail and tossed a CRJ at JFK 2 months ago,
and this one at LFPB,
why not folding the wings after landing like on an aircraft carrier?
Going there tomorrow. Too bad I won't see this beauty flying.
And Grizzly 3 is grounded too due to an engine problem...

During ground maneuvers with the Airbus A380 flight test aircraft MSN 004, the aircraft’s right hand wing-tip touched a structure near the taxiway ‘’Victor’’ at Le Bourget airport at 15:50 local time.
Airbus experts are currently inspecting the aircraft, but it is already confirmed that the A380 MSN04 will not perform the flying display at the Le Bourget Air Show 2011.
