?? BRU is currently operated by B733 (142 seats) or B735 (118 seats), three times a week: 3x142= 426 seats one way. CRJ900 has 86-90 seats normally: 5x90=450 or 5x86=430 one way.
Where is that decrease of 52%?

My small mistake, I tought that Estonian had a bigger configuration on their B733. But I have looked it up on their website.

Nevertheless. Estonian in increasing in West-Europe. Some will have a mix of B733 and CRJ 900. Other, like BRU, will only receive their CRJ 900.
And now I will correct my mistake. The decrease is -36%. The increase of ops was planned. They even had an extra bonus due to the code share of SN. Only the last couple of weeks they decide to swich from a B733/735 to the CRJ 900

Actually SU schedules a daily flight and in the AMADEUS system I saw a single additional flight for the next summer. Which will be the schedules ? Will SN also see consequently an increase of its offer ? ;)

MEA's BEY-BRU remains 3-weekly from the start of the IATA Summer season but there is a shift to Mon, Wed (iso Thu), Sat. For the moment the same number of flights is planned for Summer but that could vary seeing loads, or for the least larger aircraft will be used routinely.

I had confirmation today that the service is doing well!

I've heard that SN will operate RJ85 to Bristol, Newcastle and Hannover from S11, so I checked it. I've checked some dates in both amadeus and SN's website and indeed: SN will use the RJ85 starting from 27 March on Bristol and Newcastle (now operated by BD E145) and Hannover (now operated by Augsburg Q400). The shedule will stay the same, so three daily flights on weekdays and 1 daily in weekends for all 3 routes.
So if they keep the shedule, that means a capacity increase for all 3 routes. Especially for BRS and NCL, from 3x50 to 3x82 each day...

What will happen with the E145's and the Q400? Will they return to their original operators or will they be used on other possible routes like Belfast, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Nuremberg...

I suppose this is one of the many shifts in fleet usage at SN in 2011.

I have no clue what we Belgians have to do in Newcastle. The few times I have been there, I was happy there is a great highway that brings you quickly around Newcastle. And each time again, I am so surprised by this rusted landmark, the Angel of the North.

Back to aviation: it is quite remarkable how many regional airports there are in the UK, sometimes quite close to eachother. Leeds/Bradford, Doncaster, Humberside, East Midlands. Maybe because the road network is not so extensive as over here. Especially the east-west connections are bad in the UK.

When SN/BD announced the upgrade from 1 daily evening flight operated by SN to 3 daily flights, many business people in the Newcastle region were happy about that because of the important connections to Africa. Recently BD expanded their codeshare offer out of Newcastle, Bristol, Leeds,... to Europe trough BRU. So I think the majority of the people using these flights are connection pax (AFI and Europe) and business people.

BTW, about GVA. Past summer they upgraded from 6 daily to 7 daily but used less 737/A319 on these flights: 3 daily A319 and 4 daily RJ100. Same this winter season. Next summer it will stay 7 daily but seems to get 6 daily A319 and only the last evening flight operated by RJ100. Maybe because its easier to fight with Easyjet with bigger aircraft (this remind me to the 737/RJ replacement topic ;) ).

And I checked TXL also and I've found 7 daily flights for next summer like this winter and past summer, but there is a different. Past summer all flights were operated with RJ100/85 and this winter 1 daily flight is operated with A319. Next summer it seems to be 3 daily A319 and 4 daily RJ100/85 (date in April), and I also checked dates in June and I found 4 A319 and 3 RJ100/85. Than I checked a few dates in September 2011 and I've found 5 daily A319 and 2 daily RJ100.

Are there some more destinations wich will get RJ replaced by A319, as I'm not going to check all SN destinations? :P

I asked someone to search in amadeus a little bit and he discovered this (about SN only):
- GOT S10: 3 daily RJ => S11: 2 daily RJ, 1 daily B734
- HAM S10: 4 daily RJ => S11: 3 daily RJ, 1 daily A319
- PRG S10: 3 daily RJ => S11: 2 daily RJ, 1 daily A319
- GVA S10: 3 daily A319, 4 daily RJ100 => S11 6 daily A319, 1 daily RJ100
- TXL S10: 7 daily RJ => S11 3-5 daily A319, 4-2 daily RJ
Some other RJ routes see more RJ100. So its clear SN is shifting A319 to RJ100 flights, RJ100 to RJ85 flights. So what will happen with the RJ85's that aren't needed anymore on the current network...New routes or retirement? Already a decision made about that?

Just as I had said they would, almost half a year ago.

Premium routes will get more capacity to strengthen them and the RJ planes freed by this will be moved onto other routes to increase capacity there too... it's a cascade system which allows for a spread out growth throughout the network, which should lower CASM and hopefully also increase revenues.

Of course, some still think it's a far better idea to operate loads of 'cheap and small' Q400s in future if you can't fill an RJ85 to the last seat today! :lol:

OS tried both strategies and almost lost their trousers by constantly downsizing to raise the loadfactor purely artificially (thus raising CASM without generating any extra revenues); earlier this year, they radically changed strategy and they are now seeing very good results from using bigger planes throughout their network in a way similar to what SN is planning on doing, so fingers crossed SN can match Austrian's success.

BTW:
Have you checked MXP, CPH and VIE? Those are definitely premium destinations too...
Oh, and have you checked if TLV will get the A320 during the night? I should expect it would...

Can't they be used to increase the frequency to destinations that actually only get 2 rotations a day? To replace 2x RJ85 by 4x E145? A good schedule attracks high yield doesn't it?

Cheers,

Stij

P.S. Yes, VCE would be a candidate! ;-)

No, the Q400 will fly luggage and catering services for the E145's that will fly to central Anfrica.
This is how my Alzheimer infested brain recalls some postings of the past.

I've checked them. CPH will also get A319 but later than TXL, HAM, PRG. At the end of August they go from 5 daily RJ to 2 daily A319 and 3 daily RJ. As from the second week of September CPH gets 3 daily A319 and 2 daily RJ.
Same with MXP, no A319 for the biggest part of the summer season, but at the end of August MXP goes from 5 daily RJ to 4 daily RJ and 1 daily A319. As from early September MXP gets 2 daily A319 and 3 daily RJ.
Same story with VIE. For the biggest part of the summer they get 2 daily RJ, 1 daily A319 and 1 daily B737 (S10 was 2 daily RJ and 2 daily 737). As from early September it goes to 3 daily A319 and 1 daily B734.

So TXL, PRG, MXP, HAM, CPH and GOT (maybe more but I didn't checked them all) are RJ routes wich will get A319 (734 for GOT). GVA and VIE will get more A319... It's clear what SN is doing...the same as the other LH group members and Austrian is the latest exemple wich shows that this works (they had a small profit in the last quarter, that was a long time ago).

BTW, I still don't find any A320 for TLV (didn't check destinations like Nice, MAD...)

No errror, Brussels Airlines operates multiple Corsica (charter)flights on saturday during summer season, and this since a couple of years as far as I know.

Kind regards

I have been 3 or four times to Newcastle with the Dash8 back in early 90's and I really loved the place, they had one of the biggest shopping mall of UK, Philippe Albert was playing at Newcastle United, the Newcastle Brown Ale is very tasty and the Adrian's Wall is a must seen...

I have to admit that my remark was coloured by several visits to metal working companies ( Cosworth ! ) in dreadful surroundings ( the Vickers work where they made the Challenger tank) , Bassington , Durham etcetera.
But taking the A69 westbound to connect to the A6 , it is a wonderful drive during which I also visited Hadrian's Wall. ( the road is slow so you can look around a bit ) What beer concerns I prefer Boddingtons but I won't say that loudly in companionship of Geordies, the locals of Newcastle :)
