Securitas looses security contract at BRU airport

Post by taz001 »

I heard this before that there was a possibility they would loose the contract, but now it seems to have become reality.

Is there anyone who can confirm this? Appearantly the new contract has gone to G4S...

thanks Willem, this means I can remove the word 'rumour' in the heading.

It also seems G4S will just take over all the people working for Securitas now. One can only hope G4S wants improve better service than Securitas did. Security screening at BRU can be hell sometimes (I also want to stress out that there are indeed also very competent people at Securitas, but sometimes you get the perception that is only a minority)

Not wishing to start an airport security bashing thread, from experience I find the security process at Brussels one of the better ones around Europe, I know that some of my friends say the same.
I do hope the same staff from Securitas are kept on as they are doing a good job.

The horror at BRU's security checkpoints is mostly the fault of BAC, not Securitas.

G4S Aviation Security Ltd will help ensure airport security at Brussels Airport as of 1 February 2011

The Brussels Airport Company is responsible for ensuring airport safety at Brussels Airport. In practice the security services are partly provided by a security firm under the supervision of The Brussels Airport Company in collaboration with its own security team.

In March 2010 a new tender procedure was launched. Several security companies submitted a bid. The security contract is awarded to the candidate G4S Aviation Security Ltd. The contract has a three-year term and will commence on 1 February 2011.

The new contractor has undertaken to guarantee employment to all employees, both blue and white collar workers, who currently ensure these security tasks.

I agree with Emirates : since they stopped demanding that pax take off their shoes, BRU's security staff are among the most efficient and most friendly in Europe. So, let's hope only the name of the company changes, not the people (and not their pay and working conditions, because if another company got the contract, it must mean it will be cheaper).
In favor of quality air travel.

For me the security at BRU is the worst I have seen...but if the Fast Lane is properly and effectively managed, it will be a huge improvement in the right direction

well, we do start the discussion...
Having done LHR several times the last 10 years I can only say : if you were not yet on tranquilizers, you will after such an ordeal. :x But to be honnest: during my last transit , the attitude and service and speed was much better than before. I have not been bashing the BAA staff anymore.
AMS: well well well, quite some stories over there as well. Have you never seen the row of interrogation people ( no, not only for El Al flights) in the transit zone ? And during check inn, they don't allow non-flyers to assist relatives to check inn. But that has softened now a bit as well.

Hmm G4S. Well let's hope they just stick to security, and not escorting us on to the aircraft...

''The Horror'' has allot of reasons.

The demanded staff of securitas by TBAC is based upon prognoses. Its a complicated algoritme used by TBAC. It factors the estimated PAX flow on info provided by : weather, estimated amount of pax info provided bij the carriers, number of pax in transit, number of pax same time over the last years etc.....

Sometimes the prognoses can be dead on, sometimes way off... NOT an axact science...

On the other hand, you got the 'demand-supply' reason. Securitas can just not deliver the amount of agents, demanded by TBAC.

So, who to blame.... (if you're looking for someone to blame.)

BTW : tA new euro law 800/2010 (aug 2010) states that SHOES will be obliged to be taken of after ALL ALERTS at security. while in the past there was a sreening machine that eliminates 70 proc of all shoe alerts.
So, I hope you'll put on fresh socks next timz you pass @ BRU... :D

Perhaps only at the KLM check-in desks, which are very crowded, and where they actually check whether you actually checked in using the internet when you go to the baggage drop-off. And even so, this is a very recent development, it didn't used to be like that. For other check-in counters, nobody checks tickets.

No no , completely different: EVA and China Airlines check inn desks 3-4 years ago. But now been relaxed again.
