BRU summer 2009: latest news, routes, airlines

Post by Atlantis »

A little bit early but I just received the latest info about the summer flights of Air Transat for 2009. They will increase again their number of flights to Brussels Airport with one extra flight. According to the info I have they will drop Toronto (was introduced this summer) but they are going to fly four times a week between Brussels and Montréal. The flight days are: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

This is the schedule:

TS152 YUL - BRU: 19.20h - 08.10h
TS153 BRU - YUL: 10.10h - 11.45h

TS154 YUL - BRU: 19.55h - 08.45h
TS155 BRU - YUL: 10.30h - 12.05h

TS156 YUL - BRU: 18.30h - 07.20h
TS157 BRU - YUL: 09.15h - 10.50h

TS158 YUL - BRU: 23.30h - 12.20h (The first afternoon flight)
TS159 BRU - YUL: 14.15h - 15.50h

That is some good news, I wonder if Air Transat shouldn't envisage a year-round service, albeit reduced in frequency in the calm months, they could milk the many holiday seasons outside Summer.

I'm afraid if they don't start a year-round operation soon, somebody else will enter the market and reap the benefits of the seeds they will have been planting for years now. AC could very well do a YUL-BRU in cooperation with SN, especially if SN is taken over by LH and joins Star Alliance. Or SN could start operating its own flights to YUL sooner rather than later, once their ownership and alliance issues are sorted. I doubt SN would code-share on TS' service, otherwise they would already have done that.

Atlantis, thanks for the information. Will the equipment remain the good old A310 or are some A330 flights considered as well?

The equipment will be indeed an A310-300. But I suppose that we will see from time to time their A330 like this year.

Starting April 1 2009, Royal Jordanian will resume direct flights between Brussels and Amman. Flight will be on saturdays and wednesdays and will be operated by the newly added Airbus A319's.

RJ has 3rd and 4th freedom rights and can put in as much frequencies as needed.

Where did they make stops in the past ?
If I'm well informed they flew to BRU by Lockheed L-1011 and after by A310.

The last flights of RJ to BRU in the past were direct flights with their A310.

Finaly we get the scheduled flight back. This is a cooperation with both tourist agencies of both countries and this for years. We see today the results of that. Be sure that also Thomas Cook will increase their new weekly flight to Aqaba with one flight.

RJ also operated their 747 to BRU for a while, somewhere during the eighties.

I have been told recently at 2 different occasions that Biman Bangladesh (BG) is studying the possibilty to resume their Dhaka - New York flight (via BRU).

Apparently BG is about to lease a B777-300ER aircraft and - if sucessful - they would try to resume their flight to New York (JFK) as soon as possible.

Since the current air service agreement between Bangladesh and the USA requires BG to make a stop at BRU, we could potentially see BG back at BRU.

Personally, I doubt that this will happen soon, knowing BG's current situation... I also expressed my scepticism to the persons who told me this.

Maybe anyone at Brussels Airport with more (reliable) infomation?

They have indeed ordered 4 x 777-300ER, but delivery is only for 2013.

(They have also orderd 4 x 787-800, delivery for 2017 - at the earliest)

I posted this in the winter topic, but I think it is more appropriate over here:

RJ105 AMM0845 - 1245BRU 319 3
RJ105 AMM1200 - 1600BRU 319 6

RJ106 BRU1430 - 1900AMM 319 3
RJ106 BRU1645 - 2215AMM 319 6

New flight from Royal Jordanian to Amman, twice a week A319 (Wed/Sat).

Too bad that Saturday flight doesn't connect to the last service AMM-BEY, it leaves at 9:15.
So RJ will not be another option to reach Beirut during school holidays other than the Summer one, sadly.

Still along time to go but it looks like U2 is aiming at MAN - BRU in the summer.
2x daily with nightstop in BRU with A320.

I understand that U2 may be holding slots for MAN-BRU. However, I would not be too sure that U2 will actually utilise these slots for that very purpose.

Unlike with THF, NCE or GVA there is no real leasure traffic on MAN-BRU to add to the business traffic. U2 is currently flying to 8 destinations out of MAN, namely ALC, HER, PFO, GVA, AGP, MLA, SOF and TFS. All of them are leasure destinations.

I don't know the timings of their slots, but a nightstop at BRU would expectedly imply an early morning departure back to MAN. E.g. a 06h40 departure out of BRU would result in a 07h05 arrival in MAN, which is way too early. It is unlikely that U2 would start the working day of their 319 much later with e.g. an 08h00 departure.
