I love the A345 (and A346). Such an impressive place capable of ultra long haul flights with the in-built redundancy of 4 engines and free of ETOPS requirements.
Pity it's recently losing ground to the 772LR due to it's higher fuel burn and teething problems. Airbus should fix that quickly.

Both A345 and A346 experienced a lot of minor problems during the first months in revenue service with Virgin, Cathay and SIA. It was publicised in an article in Flight International last year ("The Long Hello") which you can find on their internet site.
Although the aircraft are derivatives of the A343 they are 40% new and many of the new systems and components showed reliability problems which in turn led to a lower than expected overall reliability of the aircraft. Cathay seems to have gotten tired of that and didn't order more than the 2 leased units they have (346). Then they ordered 773ER...

As for the fuel burn, it's hard to see where the truth lies with both manufacturers claiming contradictory figures... But it seems the A345 has a 5 to 8% penalty. Not a problem when the 4 engines allow for a more direct route than with the 772LR but an issue in other cases, in view of recent oil prices.

I still love the A345!

don't you like the paint sheme or what? What does look bad ?? :?
I personnally don't like the Ethihad scheme very much. I find it rather dull especially when compared to those of Gulf Air or LAN (my favourite).
But I love the A340-500

Why does the A345 (Which is smaller than a a346) has bigger engines that the 346 ?

Could this come from the fact that it has a longer range than the A346?

Etihad's c/s is not the best around, I d love to see this aircraft in gulf air colours or Emirates.
Question: is there a chance to see it in BRU? [/quote]

I dont like there ”symbol” because it makes the aircrafts look like a army plane. Then the name is very odd indeed. It means United, but since Arab words like “Jihad” has been heard by many people things even Etihad sounds little like Jihad and other Arab words! (I don’t think that personally)

When it comes with the A340-500/600 performance it’s a really sad deal. Airbus should have had waited and take more time with the design and components selection. Many of the A340-600 in service with SAA and IB are sold for way too low prices. I wonder if Airbus is going to make money selling the A340 in the future!?

In fact the A345 and A346 share exactly the same wing and engine, the RR Trent 500. It may look bigger on the A345 due to its shorter fuselage, but that's all.

hello,

well they should fix those minor details, and make the A340 more fuel effecient because the 777's are really at one of their peak phases and are catching lots of ground. Year 2005 boeing sold 155 777, compared to Airbus who sold only 15 A340

I like this plane :D That metallic shade of than makes the plane look nice, I think. But I also think the story of the A340 is about to end. The 777 is newer, perforns great and is very fuel efficient. And even the 777 is about 10 years old now. Airbus should start to think of some replacement projects like Boeing, in my oppinion.
