SN Brussels Airlines opens new Glasgow – Brussels service

Monday, February 07, 2005

Starting this Spring, SN Brussels Airlines connects Scotland with the European Capital by opening a new service between Brussels and Glasgow.

As from the 2nd of June, SN Brussels Airlines will offer nine weekly flights between Brussels International Airport and Glasgow. The Scottish Region was not served by SN so far. Recent studies of travel behaviour clearly illustrate that there is strong demand from the Business and Tourism community for direct flight services between Glasgow and the European capital.

The flight schedule allows time sensitive business trips, long weekends, cultural visits and holidays in both Glasgow / Scotland and Brussels / Belgium. Thanks to the morning, evening and noon flights smooth connections from Scotland to dozens of other SN destinations in Europe, the US and Africa are possible.

« This new service gives Glasgow a major connection to mainland Europe and the prospect of onward flights across SN’s European and long haul network», says SN Brussels Airlines CEO Peter Davies. « This is also fantastic news for the conference business and for the tourism industry in Scotland. »

The flight time will be 1 hour and 40 minutes. On board the modern four engines Avro RJ aircraft, passengers will enjoy free meals, drinks and newspapers. Business class clients have free lounge access both in Brussels and Glasgow. Thanks to the loyalty programme Privilege all passengers can earn and redeem miles on the route and on more than 700 other destinations.

These new SN Brussels Airlines flights allow more than 40.000 people to travel this year between Glasgow and Brussels.

About Glasgow:

Glasgow, ‘Scotland with style’, is one of the liviest destinations in the UK. It is the UK’s fourth city with a population of over 600,000. The city has reborn as a centre of style and vitality against a backdrop of outstanding Victorian architecture. Victorian Red and honey sandstone, Italianate steeples and medieval spires sit harmoniously with neo-gothic towers and Art Nouveau. A must see is the Art Nouveau of Scotland’s best known architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Art and culture are important in Glasgow life where galleries and museums are in abundance (Mackintosh
House, Contemporary Gallery of Modern Art, the world’s first Museum of Religion, Glasgow Science Centre, …).
Second to London, Glasgow is the second biggest retail city in the whole of the UK. There are numerous shopping possibilities in the pedestrianised streets and covered shopping centres. Glasgow also hosts the largest business base of Scotland.

About Glasgow Airport:

Glasgow Airport is the busiest of Scotland’s three main international airport handling over 8 million passengers a year. The airport is situated eight miles to the city centre and is an ideal gateway for holidays or business trips in the beautiful Greater Glasgow and Clyde Valley and the rest of Scotland.
