A topic should be a place to discuss items, you seem to keep posting irrelative messages just to keep this topic in top-position :?

Regret. Was just updating AirIndia news. No attempt to keep this topic in top position. I shall try and maintain my FOCUS to the 777 henceforth.

Pierre Cardin has rejected the four outfits designed by the team that was to assist him in creating a vibrant look for AirIndia cabin staff.

He has asked that more colours be used and the choicest of linen too.

Good news for Boeing! I wonder if it is because B777 is more economical than A340 AI decided B777 against A340. When Air Canada placed an order of bunch of B777 they mentioned about the economy of twin engines, and the need for these planes because of the rise of fuel cost. Hard to tell this is true. Anybody knows?

:offtopic: But Some Good News

PIB APPROVES ACQUISITION OF AIRCRAFT BY AIR INDIA

The Public Investment Board (PIB) has recommended acquisition of 50 new long range wide bodied state-of-art-technology aircraft for Air India and 18 B737-800W aircraft for Air India Charters Ltd, (AICL) on a not to exceed cost basis to the Government (CCEA) for approval, with a sovereign guarantee.

The Air India Board has approved the acquisition plan at its meeting held in Mumbai on April 26, 2005. The acquisition plan envisaged procurement of 68 aircraft:

18 B737-800 aircraft for Air India's subsidiary Air India Charters Ltd. under whose umbrella the low cost airline Air India Express would be run.

8 Boeing 777-200LR Medium Capacity Ultra Long Range aircraft in three-class configuration (including three options);

15 B777-300ER Medium Capacity Long Range-350 seater, in three-class configuration (including five options); and

27 B787 Medium Capacity Long Range-250 seater aircraft in two class configuration (including seven options).

The total cost of these aircraft and related infrastructure is estimated to be about Rs.35,000 crores, prior to negotiations with the manufacturers of air frame and engines. The ultimate project cost will be firmed up after completion of negotiations with the airframe/engine manufacturers. The acquisition of these aircraft will enable Air-India to re-position itself as a premier airline and become the airline of choice for the international traveller to and from India. This will be the single largest order by the airline in its history after it commenced operations in 1953 under the Air Corporations Act.

Pending acquisition of new aircraft, Air-India, which has a fleet of 42 aircraft at present, has been taking aircraft on dry lease to ensure that AI continues to get a share of the fast growing market. Air-India has inducted 24 aircraft on dry lease as of date including three for its subsidiary, Air India Express.

Air India proposes to introduce non-stop flights to New York and Chicago with the induction of the new generation ultra long range aircraft as well as additional destinations in its route network.

The deliveries are likely to commence from the later part of 2006. Financing arrangements for the acquisition of these aircraft will be tied up to meet the pre-delivery commitments up to 15% of the cost of the aircraft. A letter of intent will be placed on the Boeing Company and the Engine Manufacturers followed by the signing of the purchase agreement once the Government approval is received.

How are their prices in comparison to competitors? I would think pricing is as important as capacity to gain market share.

I think both aircraft manufacturers and their customers never disclosed the prices. Recently Boeing put a lot of effort in streamlining B777 production to stay competitive in the market. I guess that is one of the reasons they are selling B777 well.
