I think that Eurowings would never have come to Charleroi if Brussels Airlines was still part of their business.

The potential with eurowings is huge.
I'd love to see some long haul too.
Vegas for example !
Pristina is one of their bases, coming from Germanwings. Belgium - Kosovo has also the TUI route, all year round I think.
The long haul might be a possibility even though it would be a non sense to privilege CRL iso BRU with Eurowings. It is atm 1 weekly flight till 14 September. We have to see how it evolves.

Essaouira is actually a transfer from BRU.

Essaouira was flown from CRL before, so technically it’s just coming back after a short stint in BRU.

Neither BRU and SN were informed of the move of Eurowings to fly from CRL. Eurowings is part of LH and Eurowings worked together with SN. If there would be flights, it was obvious from BRU. But everybody is very surprised. I cannot give details but this is now part of a discussion on high level.

Well, Eurowing's strategy could fit very well with an airport like CRL. It's been a though negotiation between CRL and Eurowings and it seems that CRL is effectively moving forward with its strategy to diversify the number of companies on its soil. Very nice move for CRL. Considering their runway extension will soon be operational, some bright skies seem to be ahead in a post-covid era.

This winter, Ryanair is launching three new routes to/from Brussels South Charleroi Airport. Trieste, Genoa and Trapani will be added to the 18 direct routes available from Brussels-Charleroi to Italy. These three new destinations will be connected thanks to 2 flights a week.

In winter 2021/2022, Ryanair will launch twice-weekly flights from Charleroi to Suceava in Romania. This route will compete with the TUIfly route out of Brussels.

https://www.aviation24.be/airlines/ryan ... charleroi/

In addition to Suceava, Ryanair has just put three new destinations from CRL in its reservation system:
Tétouan (Morocco)
Poznań (Poland)
Lourdes (France)

Ryanair wanted to kill SN at Brussels Airport. The plan never worked and they even downgraded from BRU. now we can see that they are launching a huge amount of new destinations from CRL. Message to SN, grow further at BRU to have bigger presence there and never be afraid of barking dogs who don't bite 😉😂

I know, but Ryanair wanted to kill SN at BRU by offering a lot of flights from there. They saw quite fast that it was not working. AFTER, Ryanair decided to downgrade from BRU.

Barking dogs that are way much profitable than SN which is hanging on a lifeline for years.

Moreover, why SN is so reluctant (or which help do they get?) to let go their unused slots in BRU given a significant decrease of its activities?

Ryanair announces 11 new routes from CRL in Winter 2021/2022. Several of these routes were announced previously, but this is the first announcement taking all of them into account. Sibiu (Romania) was never mentioned before.

Wizz Air to start a new route to...

Suceava.
Apparently Ryanair has given some inspiration to launch that new route, operated twice a week, on 2 and 6, from 4 December 2021.

TUIfly Belgium first created the inspiration from Brussels.
