How can this happen? A lot has to go wrong before this can happen, even on the ground there are multiple checks by as many people aimed at preventing this.

Transavia flight HV5754 (Boeing 737-800 reg. PH-HXM) from Marrakech to Amsterdam was diverted to Lisbon.

Air France flight AF55 (Boeing 777-300ER reg. F-GSQC) from Washington IAD to Paris CDG was forced to divert to Boston. Reason unknown.

Longtail Aviation VP-BWT lost some engine parts on departure of MST and diverted to LGG.

Japan Airlines flight #JL48 Helsinki-Tokyo Haneda (Boeing 787-9 reg. JA867J), returned to Helsinki due to a technical issue.

The past two days have been tough for the aviation community. Here is a summary of the various incidents that have occurred.

Flight UA328/772-200:

The 772 suffered an engine explosion after take off. No dead or injuries were reported. Only material damage !

Flight VQ-BWT :

A 747 lost engine parts after leaving Maastricht. 2 people were slightly injured but nothing more!

KLM flight #KL515 to Zanzibar (B777-200 reg PH-BQD) as forced to return to Amsterdam due to a birdstrike. I'm surprised it took so long after the incident to decide to return: almost 6 hours!

Iberia flight #IB6453 (A350 reg. EC-MXV) from Madrid to Quito turned around and diverted to Lisbon. Reason unknown.

The aircraft now resumed the flight to Quito.

Condor flight #DE2199 (B767-300ER reg D-ABUK) from Varadero to Frankfurt diverted Sunday morning at Shannon, Ireland. German Member of Parliament Karin Strenz died in an Irish hospital at the age of 53 after feeling unwell and becoming unconscious on the flight, although a doctor and an intensive care nurse were able to stabilise her on board. :o

ANA flight #NH203 from Tokyo Haneda to Frankfurt (Boeing 787-9 reg. JA872A) has been diverting to Krasnoyarsk with a maintenance issue. The crew needed to shut the left-hand engine (Trent 1000) down.

The airline reported the crew received indications of low oil quantity and subsequently low oil pressure for the left-hand engine and diverted to Krasnojarsk. (source: The Aviation Herald)
