Flybe has collapsed but could be reborn...

Post by sn26567 »

Flybe has told the government that it is running out of cash and will not survive until the end of the month. The airline has been hit by a slump in bookings since COVID-19 outbreak. FlyBe says it needs a decision on its request for taxpayer loan of £100m “in the coming days”

The end seems to be near.

Many pictures of aircraft seizure at Aberdeen, Manchester and Glasgow.

Filing into administration is unavoidable, the story ended.

Very sad, this is a great blow to UK aviation, but not surprising. Although the staff were very friendly the company never seemed to have a clear focus. They were always changing their flights and airports, especially in London. I used to use them to get to NQY but their service became erratic. Now I go to BRS and rent a car.

The airline announced to take over operations of flybe at Teesside :
and announces :

Aberdeen - Birmingham
Southampton - Manchester
Southampton - Newcastle
Today and tomorrow (and some say even during the weekend), British rail companies offer for free, train rides to home for Flybe crew and passengers.
easyJet only for flybe crew :
Rescue fares :
Aurigny :
SPECIAL RESCUE FARE: Any flight on the Aurigny network between any destinations on Thursday 5th March 2020 £49.99. Booking is now available on the Aurigny website. Our thoughts go out to our colleagues and friends at the Flybe family at this time. Aurigny will make further announcements in due course and continue to aim to be Guernsey's dependable local airline.
Ryanair also launches rescue fares from £19.99.

Eastern Airways will offer 3 new routes formerly operated by Flybe to provide certainty to key regions for the protection of services:

Aberdeen - Birmingham
Southampton - Manchester
Southampton - Newcastle

Flights commence next week with the schedule released for sale imminently.

My condolences to the staff. Aviation is facing difficult times and it will be hard to secure a new aviation job.

British Airways is getting the 168 weekly Flybe slot pairs at London Heathrow. Incredible decision of the slot coordinator, which will further increase the dominance of BA at LHR.

Flybe administrator EY has denied reports that it is in negotiations with the government to buy the regional carrier out of bankruptcy in order to protect the UK’s aviation sector. EY “continues to be open to approaches from all parties in order to realise returns for creditors”.

Flybe administrators are finalizing the sale of its aircraft support operation, Flybe Aviation Services, and also plan to sell a maintenance function once it is no longer needed to service the remaining Flybe fleet.

Flybe sale is reported to be at risk from the potential loss of its operating licence and the pandemic enveloping the aviation sector. Administrator EY has received about 20 non-binding offers, including for the majority of the remaining business.
