FR2932 from LIS diverted to LIL
FR2939 from BCN diverted to LIL

The SN flights from the same destinations did not divert!

what? wait...
so it takes off in MAD, flies to AMS, tried but fails to land 3 x, and then flies back to MAD with all AMS bound passengers on board?

And they have enough fuel on board? Or is it just this time, knowing landing at AMS could be risky?
For at least one female passenger, it was all too scary:

Tankering fuel (ie carrying fuel for 2 or more sectors) is quite common in aviation. As soon as the difference in fuel price is big enough to cover the cost of the extra fuel burned airlines will tank at the cheapest airport. Not very ecological and even borderline hypocritical for airlines which pretend to be carbon neutral though.

Strong and gusty westerly winds today. Sustained winds of 18-35 knots over British isles; 20-45 over the Benelux, Germany, Poland, Denmark, Northern France. Strong winds will also affect Austria and Switzerland.

Still many cancellations!

Yes, but not always for the same reasons. In commercial air transport, price may be the usual reason; smaller planes sometimes fly to aerodromes where their preferred type of fuel is not available at all; quite a stronger argument...

See this discussion for one sad example: https://www.pprune.org/private-flying/6 ... -fuel.html

Infrastructure damage: at EBZH Kiewit, the windsock and its mast were blown over. Or at least, that's what I see on the webcam : http://ebzh.be/webcam/
