Due to the ongoing unclear assessment of the security situation for the airspace around Tehran airport, Austrian Airlines has cancelled the rotation OS 871/OS 872 to Tehran until incl. March 28 (end of winter flight schedule).

That A320neo, it would have been very interesting news...

...if it were true. Unfortunately, it isn't: The aircraft with the Airbus serial 5278 is not a "neo", but an A320-214:
delivered 27/09/2012 to Avianca Brasil, registered PR-ONK (leased from Acg)
returned to lessor 04/2019 as N642AC
leased by Austrian from 22/01/2020, registered OE-LZC

Austrian Airlines announced that the company is about to cut 90 out of 300 jobs in the mid-to-higher management levels. This step comes as part of a restructuring plan that forces the airline to cut 700-800 jobs by the end of 2021 in an attempt to improve its financial balance.

Announcement by Austrian Airlines:

"Austrian Airlines decided to temporarily suspend all regular flight operations starting Wednesday night, March 18, 2020. This move is in response to entry bans being imposed across the globe and a rapid decline in demand for air travel.

The last flight for the time being departing from Chicago with the flight number OS 066 will land in Vienna on March 19, 2020 in the morning hours. Up until then flight operations will be scaled back in a controlled and structured manner in order to bring all passengers, crews and aircraft home if possible.

Initially, Austrian Airlines will cancel all flights up until March 28, 2020. Passengers who have booked a flight during the time will be rebooked on other airlines if possible.

Stranded Austrians can contact the Federal Ministry of European and International Affairs
Austrian Airlines is in contact with the Austrian Federal Ministry of European and International Affairs to clarify issues relating to the operation of additional evacuation flights to bring back Austrians who are abroad.
For this reason, Austrian Airlines asks all Austrians who are stranded in other countries and who want to return home to get in touch with the hotline of the Federal Ministry of European and International Affairs at +43 1 90115 4411."

OS is starting negotiations with the Austrian government. It also includes the LHG Board.

Moderators - feel free to delete if this is in violation - I'm quoting a person from airliners.net

The person (mxaxai) in airliners.net gives a good overview of what will be discussed.

OS and LH leadership (board members) will hold talks with the Austrian government starting today. OS has not filed a formal request for assistance yet and the government isn't satisfied with the plans presented by the airline so far.
Up to 750 mln € volume, of which 300 mln € would be for ticket refunds alone. The Austrian government remains open to all options to ensure that Austria remains connected by air and VIE isn't dehubbed; these options include loans, non-repayable subsidies and partial ownership

Do we have any idea if SN has commenced conversations with the Belgian government or what issues will be discussed? Or if we have to hear some news soon, apart from the change in the board of SN.

Thanks,
Max

In order to adjust capacity to the changed demand from corona, Austrian Airlines has decided to make fleet changes. In addition to the phase-out of the 18 Dash turboprops, which was decided and started in 2019, all seven A319 and three of the six B767s are to be retired by 2022.

The restart plan envisages a fleet of around 60 aircraft in 2022, nine of which will be long-haul aircraft. The adaptation of the fleet is to take place in stages. Since mainly smaller aircraft are being decommissioned, this corresponds to a capacity reduction of around 20%.

"We will part with the oldest and smallest aircraft," explains CCO Andreas Otto. After sentence: "also for ecological reasons." Despite the reduction of the fleet, as many jobs as possible are to be maintained. Appropriate talks are already underway with the works councils.
