UPDATE 1-Germany agrees on rescue package for Lufthansa - Der Spiegel

BERLIN, May 20 (Reuters) - The German government has agreed on final details of a rescue package for struggling airline carrier Lufthansa , Der Spiegel magazine reported on Wednesday.

[...]

Lufthansa said then that the package included a non-voting capital component, known as a so-called silent participation, a secured loan, and a capital increase which may leave the government with a shareholding of up to 25% plus one share. At least LH now can’t maintain that Belgium shouldn’t get shares in return as that’s what they agreed to in Germany. Think it will go fast now.

Der Spiegel misses one important feature, that was disclosed in Handelsblatt: the German government will get a 20% stake in LH and a convertible bond that can be converted into an addition 5% stake + one share. Only after conversion will it hold a blocking minority.

Apparently the German government wants LH to keep its current orders with Airbus, as part of the 'rescue' deal.
