Lufthansa says a commercial partnership with Alitalia would boost revenues at the ailing Italian airline by US$112 million annually in the medium term. Lufthansa would like to build a hub at Rome’s Fiumicino airport and Alitalia should join Star Alliance.

Lufthansa is cancelling its daily flight between Frankfurt and Tehran due to the situation in Iran. Also cancelling its next planned flight - on Saturday - to Erbil in Iraq.
Several other major airlines said on Wednesday they were re-routing flights to avoid airspace over Iraq and Iran after the Federal Aviation Administration banned U.S. carriers from the area following an Iranian missile attack on U.S.-led forces in Iraq.

Due to the continuing unclear security situation for the airspace around Tehran airport and for Iranian airspace, Lufthansa Group airlines are suspending flights to/from Tehran until 28 March 2020 as a precaution. This also applies to the overflights over Iran.

Lufthansa Group is considering an IPO of its subsidiary Lufthansa Technik to fund the unit’s expansion and help boost the airline group’s market value. A partial spinoff is also being considered.

RWANDAIR PARTNERSHIP WITH LUFTHANSA SYSTEMS BRINGS CUSTOMERS COMPETITIVE PRICES AND FLIGHT SCHEDULES

NetLine/Sched and ProfitLine/Price takes off with RwandAir

Kigali, January 29, 2020 – RwandAir customers will benefit from easy-to-understand schedules and prices following a new partnership between the airline and Lufthansa Systems. The new partnership means Rwandair.com will better display the cheapest available ticket prices to meet customer demand and make booking with the Rwandan flag carrier easier than
ever.

The enhancements follow RwandAir’s adoption of Lufthansa Systems’ NetLine/Sched and ProfitLine/Price solutions, which optimise the airline’s complex flight schedule to more efficiently determine the best ticket prices, based on the current market situation as well as supply and demand. NetLine/Sched, the schedule management system from Lufthansa Systems, helps airlines to quickly make the best decisions when creating and optimising their flight schedules, while also taking operational and economic aspects into account. ProfitLine/Price is a comprehensive system for pricing which considers the current competitive situation, price trends and underlying fare structures. These two control programs not only
simplify the airline’s scheduling, they also effectively support RwandAir’s expansion of its route network and pricing strategy by forecasting revenue changes based on fare modifications.

Yvonne Manzi Makolo, Rwandair CEO, said: “Thanks to our adaption of Lufthansa Systems’ scheduling and pricing solutions, our customers will be able to find fares more easily and enjoy an easy-to-understand flight schedule. Working closely with Lufthansa Systems, we have been able to optimise our ticket pricing and flight schedules to ensure RwandAir continues its ambitious growth as it enters into exciting new markets.”
Marco Cesa, Lufthansa Systems Vice President Regional Management EMEA, said: “We are delighted that RwandAir, an important customer in Africa, is now relying on our NetLine/Sched and ProfitLine/Price solutions.

I am certain that both products will make a significant contribution to the airline’s expansion plans. Netline/Sched is a dynamic system which enablesairlines like RwandAir to make swift and effective changes and important short-term modifications to their highly complex live flight schedules. These systems use economic algorithms to help evaluate different schedule scenarios to create a comprehensive pricing system.”

About RwandAir

An IATA member airline, RwandAir is IOSA, ISAGO and EASA certified. With a fleet of twelve aircraft including two wide-body Airbus A330s, the airline currently reaches out to 29 destinations across East, Central, West and Southern Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Asia. Interview on Rwanda Tv, in English.

I think that nobody would have imagined 20 years ago (I will not go back to the genocide of 1994), that in the same week, that Qatar Airways which announces that they would have put money in RwandAir and that the CEO of Lufthansa and Lufthansa Group, would come to Rwanda.

EXCLUSIVE: CEO of Lufthansa Group on their new plans in Rwanda through SN Brussels and Rwandair

Rwanda continues to promote aviation infrastructure and airline all to make Rwanda the heart of destinations for Africa and the world. Some global airlines are also tapping into Rwanda’s agenda. In an exclusive interview with Mr. Carsten Spohr, the Chairman and CEO of Lufthansa Group, Friday James asked what new plans Lufthansa has in Rwanda through SN Brussels and also social corporate initiatives the group runs in the country.
