Very good pax figures for the airport as mentioned on this website.

CEO Mr Buelens still hopes that the Flemish government/De lijn changes the route of the coastal tram serving the airport.
Nevertheless "De lijn" provides currently 6 busses a hour to and from the airport.

New destinations/airlines in 2020? Possible return of flights to Moscou?
Volotea? Air Arabia? Jet2? Easyjet?

When you see these figures then it should be time for Sunweb/Corendon to use Belgian regional airports.
Also hearing Mr Buelens in the interview, Brussels is saturated.

My opion is that Brussels should get rid off charter (vacation) flights, this would open up more slots for others.
Get rid off most of the early flights in the morning.

There isn't any slot problem at Brussels Airport!

What slot problem , BRU is only at 66% of the actual movements they had in their best year's 2000/1

2000 : 353.000 movements
2018 : 235.000 movements

So still some growth possible !

The amount of movements on a yearly basis don't mean there can't be slot restrictions during peak periods...

There is no problem at BRU concerning slots except maybe early morning hours..OST should concentrate on cargo and maybe try to attract tourists to Bruges..JAF has the monopoly on charter flights out of Belgium!

Why is there so much cargo traffic between Ostend and Cairo?
Egyptair also has an almost daily flight..What do those planes transport?

Why is Qatar Cargo flying to OST? They already have extensive operations in LGG, and to a smaller extent in AMS and BRU. Nothing against OST, just trying to understand the rationale when consolidating at one of the other three airports would (I'd think) be operationally easier, especially if it is a crew change stop only.

There are also capacity limitations for cargo warehouses and workers to keep in mind. It is not because you have a warehouse expected to be able to handle a million tons a year that you can reach that goal. You still have to have the workforce to achieve that number as well. Due to the corona (scare) crisis some stations are far from their normal workforce levels and therefore airlines have to find other airports that have spare capacity.

It looks like Qatar are getting a permanent spot at OST? Not sure if this is confirmed by the management.

in Dutch:

" Het luchthaven management en de nieuwe cargo handler Bcube Belgium hebben grote inspanningen gedaan om deze top speler in de luchtvracht naar Oostende te halen."

It seems some sort of air bridge was established between Hangzhou in China and OST;
This week alone I counted already some 6 incoming flights by B737 of Ukrainian Sky Up airlines.(5 different planes UR-SQC,SQH,SQJ,SQF,SQB;...) Passengers planes, but all capable of carrying 19 tons of cargo, according to the airline's website.
Using the 737-8 requires two stops in between, it seems;(Kiev and Almaty) I guess for refueling and crew change.
Nice extra for OST... :)
