TAP Portugal

Post by Homo Aeroportus »

Opening this new topic as I only found the "TAP has been sold". Mods please adapt as appropriate.

There was an article in the August issue of Airliner World concerning TAP.
Just an abstract below. Also to read in the same magazine a separate trip report on their A330neo in biz class.

In 2018, TAP transported 15.8m passengers, an all-time record, growth of 10.4% vs 2017.
TAP was the first to place the A330neo in revenue service. This year alone, TAP plans to introduce 15 new A330s and launch 9 new destinations, including 3 in the USA.

In 2007, they selected the A350-900 to replace their ageing A340s and A330s. In total 12 were ordered but in 2015 the new management considered the A350 to be too large and converted their order into 14 of the then new A330-900, later extended to 21 !
First A330-900 entered service at TAP in December 2018.

Route expansion. Currently serving 36 countries, 92 destinations adding ORD and SFO in the US to existing JFK, EWR, BOS MIA and YYZ.

The CEO, Antonoaldo Neves : “We are going to bet strongly on the North American market, taking advantage of Lisbon position. Our new strategic weapon, the A321LR (14 on order), will help us develop this transatlantic market.”
First A321LR was delivered in April 2019, 16 lie-flat business and 155 eco seats. Already used on the TLV service and recently put on the Porto-Newark route at 6 weeklies, instead of the A330 twice a week. Also launched in June with the A321LR is IAD.
TAP is to receive 71 new aircraft by 2025.

Among other African destinations, TAP flies to ABJ, ACC, LFW, BJL (as from October), CKY, ….
Can’t help put plot the following on gcmap.com
LIS vs BRU.gif

Flying across the pond via LIS to West AFI takes about two hours less time than via BRU .....

Impressive, indeed.

If TAP is not frequently mentioned in the forum, we have more than 120 articles on the main page (which can be retrieved with https://www.aviation24.be/?s=tap ), explaining the change of ownership which led to the current expansion, the development in the US and Africa, the acquisition of the A330neos and the A321LRs, etc.

TAP could serve as a good example of what SN should do, ... if it gets the money!
