How futile! A mere 1000 litres per day! Even not mentioning the cost - the investment is ridiculously high, but that must be accepted in an experimental phase. Most striking is the amount of energy used by today's commercial air transport - with the present technology it is utterly impossible to maintain the intense level of transportation without exhausting the available resources, such as fossil fuels.
To put the figure in perspective, is there any indication of the amount of fuel transferred at airports? So many longhaul flights per day, taking on average this amount? Plus mid- and shorthaul?
Mind you, ships and trains are using lots of fuel, too - they too will need to be reduced as petrol runs out. Our present level of mobility, both for people and for goods, is impossible to keep up. Bye bye monthly aeroplane city-trips, but cheapo Chinese shopping is just as doomed.
Consider Scherpenheuvel-on-foot for your next holidays! (or Beauraing if that happens to be nearer )
