According to the latest rumours EASA is thinking about following the British CAA and could be ready to issue a blanket ban for the 737 MAX in Europe. Later today a statement is expected.

If EASA is indeed ready to do so I think FAA might have to follow wetter they like it or not, more and more countries are issuing a ban (or airlines are grounding the planes voluntary) but if a major authority with power over a major area issues a statement and a ban that's something a little different. Guess we have to wait and see.

I guess Belgium will follow with the airspace closure for the MAX also when those 2 planes are back at BRU? Probably the reason why they didn't follow France, The Netherlands, etc...

On the other hand, they are going to strike anyway so they'll close parts of it this night regardless :D

No need to close the Belgian airspace for 737 MAX as The Netherlands, U.K., France and Germany all closed already.

hundreds of predictions, so here s an other one: Within a few weeks the MAX up and flying again, as for cause: very bad coincidences, a set of circumstances and no direct proof of technical malfunctions, anyway Boeing took some serious precautionary measures and reviewed the complete MCAS system, case closed.

It looks like they won't be able to return to BRU if EU ban is effective from 19:00 UTC. It's a bit stupid (panic decision!), imho; they should allow planes to return to base.

(Btw, maybe a dedicated topic would be appropriate)

Not so sure. Too many dangers for the passengers. Do you keep all passengers seated with seatbelts on? How many g's does the thing create pitching down at 300kts? Does the g-load even allow pilot intervention? If the system fails, it should fail passive. Not active. The software update already mentions a reduced max input and elevator change rate (if I understand correctly). If it is the same cause as the Indonesian.

Btw, ferry flights for maintenance purpose can have special authorisation... I hope.

Both OO-TMA and OO-MAX are taking stranger routings. OO-TMA seems to divert to Venice. OO-MAX is descending above Spain. OO-TMY ferried from Ostend to Brussels.

I thought they would be able to continue to Belgium as already airborne before the decision.
