It was a very new MAX 8. It was delivered on November 2018.

It looks like the 737 MAX has a lot of youth problems, unfortunately resulting in loss of human lives...

Some are calling for 737 MAX to be grounded. Don't think this will happen yet but will certainly happen if the issue proves to be related to the issue that caused the Lion Air Crash.

In the meantime for me if it's Boeing I ain't going.

Arriving back at BRU last Friday I saw the big Ethiopian Airlines waiting for its next trip. And I was thinking " that is an airline I still have to take "

Maybe about time this plane is grounded, especially since early indications are again related to pitch instability after take off.

Maybe too early for that sort of early speculation.

157 dead indeed, R.I.P. Their nationality is not really relevant, I should think.

Almost 350 dead in less than 6 months time, with the same type, brand new airplane less than 15 minutes after take-off ...
R.I.P. and condolences to the families and friends.

IF (and it is a big IF as of yet!) there were found a basic problem with the aircraft type, that would be a big issue for the manufacturer, yes. But it seems an even bigger issue for whoever issued its airworthiness certificate.

(please read between the lines: the investigation of this and the other accident will conclude either faulty maintenance or pilot error. But never any flaw in the design or certification. Especially in the last case, given the heavy US-implication in the airline's rapid growth.)

I took ET six times last november. Great airline. Bad destiny for the casualties. So many different nationalities on this important airlink between both eastern african capital cities.

Waiting for more investigations results about what caused the dramatic crash of such a brand new manufactory Boeing 737 MAX 800   ?!

Sad as always.

RIP and regards for all the relatives and friends.
Cheers

It's not speculation, early analysis of flight data show again oscilliations in altitude and speed, as with the Lion air crash. 346 dead people in a few months time with possibly the same underlying cause, that should trigger a bigger response.

Chinese authorities have temporarily grounded the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft on all their domestic routes, Cayman Airlines has grounded both aircraft.

Looks like a wise decision to me !
Shouldn't TUI do the same ?

Knowing that your next flight is with a 737 Max 8, can you cancel or change your flight without prejudice?

From what I gather from the internet, it might not be a design flaw in the 737MAX but more of a hiatus in the manual and/or a lack of training to pilots regarding the MCAS...?

Not maxed yet, so member 737MAX is maybe a better person to answer the question, but as from what I read, pilots don’t have control over MCAS, that is why there is no mention about it in the manual.
