I can't imagine that any flights will depart tomorrow. Almost everything is cancelled - they will not keep the airport open for a few flights only.

Mr. Descheemaeker, CEO of Brussels Airport, complains in the press that his company (and the rest of the economy) will loose a lot of money because of the strike.
The CEO of Brussels Airport is Arnaud Feist. Mr Descheemaeker is the politically appointed Chairman of the Board. And yes, his political views may differ from those of the real manager of the airport. But he is (fortunately) not in charge of the day-to-day operation of the airport.
I stand corrected, but as a Chairman of the Board he has to take care of all the key stake-holders... not just his share-holders. That is according to good modern governance guidelines, I doubt Brussels Airport always follows them.... politics...

Cheers,

Stij
This political person has a history of controverse and not really an impressive business record in management matters.

The other thing is: strike is very well announced ; losses will not be that big as he says.
Some people will just come earlier or later.

BRU has bigger problems than this one day strike.
Growth figures are positive, but hey, look at Vienna, Lisbon, Stockholm,..

Skeyes announced one hour ago to close the entire Belgian airspace as from 22.00 tonight.

Despite all the efforts made by the skeyes management, there is no certainty about the number of staff in a limited number of key posts. Therefore, skeyes is forced not to allow air traffic between Tuesday 12 Feb 10 PM local time and Wednesday 13 Feb 10 PM

So after all, it was the right decision from the TUI and the LH/SN desks.

Imagine LH/SN would only now start to reschedule 16.000 pax...

Tomorrow morning, not a single long-haul flight will land at Brussels Airport. Tomorrow evening, some long-haul flights are scheduled. More information: https://www.aviation24.be/airlines/luft ... t-program/

Most of the European flights will stay in outstations to guarantee the morning flights back from outstations on Thursday.

Regarding Ukrainian Airlines and other non-EU-carriers: EU-Rule 261/2004 also applies for flights out of Brussels by non-EU-carriers. For inbound flights into Brussels by non-EU-carriers, local legislation from the country of departure applies.

Seriously??
No certainty about the number of staff showing up tomorrow?
These guys deserve a gold medal!

Recruitment has to start: we are looking for:
- People who agree to work for 5000€ or more after tax
- 35 hours per week (steal a few each day as you gonna leave early)
- call sick as much as you wish, just advise your employer one hour before your shift starts. Don't bring a sick note, it's not needed if it's for one day: take it easy.
- expect good money each Sunday you work, extra hours for free each night you work (you can sleep at work, don't worry), extra money when you are recalled (but you don't have to answer your phone if you don't feel like working more than planned)
- you will have a lot of responsibilities but peaks last less than one hour each morning and each evening so there is good chance you are on break at that time. But don't worry we will never assess your performance and if you don't work properly, it's fine too.
BUT please say if you come to work on a strike day because you might annoy a few thousands of people who have nothing to do with what you are striking for.
We hope to have lots of candidates. Thank you

I think it's a bit ridiculous...

My flight PS148 is still scheduled 13/02 from BRU @05:50 in the morning. I have no idea if I should order parking for the +10 days I'm gone. I can just imagine: order long term parking, going there, flight is cancelled ... I have to drive out from the parking then which makes the ticket invalid.
Can't you ask Ukraine International for a rebooking to day -1 or +1, to be honest I don't think there will be much flying anyway ....
How does Ukraine International responds to the closure of Belgian airspace ?

This is absolutely a disgrace.
Despite willingness from handlers, security and airport personnel to work they are forced in to this strike by these people that think that they are better than everyone.

Should be straight forward to advise your employer if you will work yes or no? or are we missing something?

Same as usual: emergencies and medical (urgent) flights are handled. Not the others (government or VIP).

Welcome to Aviation24.be, traveller42. Thanks for the information.

If BA404 is short on fuel, it will be considered as an emergency and ATC will handle it ;)

That’s because the air traffic control disruption will only last until 22:00

So does this mean flights will have to wait outside Belgian airspace until 2200 and then form a queue to land?
