Why risk losing money on scheduled routes flying half empty planes when you can make money on ACMI contracts... and with summer season starting soon and the MAX grounded till who knows when I would think more airlines will be needing to lease in planes...
Replacing a MAX by a 340 doesn't make sense at all.
Way too big (and therefore expensive).

Maybe for a single flight if there is no better option, but definitely not on the long term.

On the other hand, replacing multiple flights planned by 737 MAX by one A340 will help a long way to relieve the flight schedule mess created by the grounding. As long as the destination airport is capable of handling the A340, that is.

You realize how many MAX aircraft are being grounded. Right in Belgium TUI operates 4... They are counting on these planes to operate their summer schedule. There aren't going to be many options... I'm sure there are days they operate say 2 flights to Palma or Malaga and 1 A340 can almost do the job of 2 737s...

Could be; the last maintenance was in October (22-26) at Perpignan, I also have echoes that the C-Check should be then approved by BCAA (as it was done in Jordan).

Could be; SN's A332 SFZ has been staying in AMM for a few weeks now. Maybe for C-check too.

It seems they will focus on their ACMI activities:
.

.

Just wondering: wat do the Hong Kong based businessmen, that owne of 49,9% of Air Belgium, think about their investment (10,3M) in an airline that has no link anymore with their country and that will not realize the initial business plan?

I think they will be happy to see Air Belgium engaged in a
profitable activity rather than in loss-making scheduled routes.

Sure, they will be more then happy when there is Return On Investment in sight. That is, if the ACMI operations are profit-making.

Already announced on 27 March.

Surinam Airways service was going to be served tmby ABA, then ABD and finally ABE.

ABA is now between Warsaw and New York JFK as LO26/LO27
ABB is between London Heathrow and New York EWR as BA184/BA185
ABD headed back home today, from Brussels to Charleroi.
ABE is now flying for Surinam Airways between Amsterdam and Paramaribo as PY993/PY994.

Interesting fact. AB said about ABE "When we do, you'll definitely find out via our social media"...

ABE to be repainted soon? It seems so. Air Belgium hasn't for the moment any concrete partner to negociate a special livery, so standard one expected, but we're never far from a surprise with AB.
