Possible restrictions on Eurowings' wetlease flights to US (operated by Sun Express and Brussels Airlines) as of 30 March?

The US Department of Transport is threatening to restrict the number of wetlease flights operated for EU carriers, in a similar way as US wetlease flights are restricted in the EU. As of 30 March Eurowings flights operated by Sun Express and Brussels Airlines would no longer be permitted, unless the EU Member States agree on a liberalization of their policy on US wet-lease flights. This would mean that Eurowings has to deploy its own aircraft (Eurowings AOC). Also Lufthansa (flights operated by Cityline) and AerLingus (flights operated by ASL) would experience difficulties.

I have studied the document of the DOT. In my opinion, it only relates to eurowings operated by Sun Express flights.

Brussels Airlines introduced their new cabin with a touch of "Art Nouveau". This includes new seats for all classes, an overall new style of the cabin and a bar in the galley for the business class passengers.

I'm a bit (positively) confused: why would LH invest in an airline/brand they will kill in 2020?

The B747 cabin refit at British Airways was a 3 year project. At a certain point you are that far in and financially comitted so its not that easy anymore to pull the plug on it.

Long haul will remain SN I would imagine, the name is so well known in Africa. I always presumed that the name change was only for the Short Haul fleet anyway.

It's not because that lie is repeated hundred times, that it becomes the truth.
Lufthansa will not kill Brussels Airlines. Not the product, not the nv/sa.
Let me give you just one of the reasons: by controlling Brussels Airlines, they control Brussels Airport. And the most lucrative route to/from BRU.

That is correct, for the moment. But Footnote 14 indicates that the Brussels-Eurowings scheme may also come under the rule once operations have reached the 14 months aggregate duration. Authorisation will be limited to 14 months.

Since a few hours talk on website Airliners.net about SN to LAX and /or SFO. Did something concrete trigger this discussion? Thx.

I will be very hard here for Brussels Airlines but I flew back with OO SFC from Africa and it was a catastrophic flight.

This plane is worn out,one of the passages had to fly with metal bars coming out from the seat in Business....the other seats were very dirty.
When you had your headphones on and there was a message from the crew you could become deaf...that's not a joke I stopped looking to the movie to dangerous!
No soap or nothing in the lavatory and this in Business, with Lufthansa you have creams hair comb etc...

I don't blame the crew because it's very hard for them to work in these conditions it was to much for them to handle is Brussels Airlines not capable to become a real airline after 15 years?!?!

In my opinion they lost 30 passengers paying a lot of money for ever....
Hasta la victoria siempre.

The former bmi (and Cityjet) flights from Brussels to Hannover are not taken over. They are suspended for the whole summer season (and maybe even longer). All profit for Lufthansa: the SN pax are now routed through FRA and MUC.

Would you prefer SN to operate them in an A319 and loose money?

No, of course: the LH Group seeks to maximise the profits. Nevertheless, Belgian passengers are at a loss by the lack of direct connections. Let's hope that SN will soon find a solution for the thin short-haul routes.
