Thanks for your comments, Darjeeling. We know now that the road trip was on fact 12 hours and that those pax arrived in Kigali with a 30 hours delay. We do rely indeed on feedback from the spokespersons of the airlines and airports, but whenever possible, we try to recoup the information from other sources.

In this case, we were the only ones to publish the information. I don't know of any other media having reported the incident, hence total lack of sources. We nevertheless felt the need to publish with whatever we got: spokesmen, own research, passengers.

Spokesperson Maaike Andries just confirmed to Aviation24.be that the aircraft returned with a technical issue, Brussels Airlines is now rebooking passengers on other flights.

Silly question probably, but what is meant by "Bruno"? :)

A navigation waypoint, associated with a VOR radio beacon.
It is a common reference on approach both to Zaventem and to Deurne.
The official info is in the AIP, freely available at Belgoco^h^h^h^h^h skeyes website - if you can find it :)

Hèst? I'd rather have said halfway between Hèrtaat and Westel :geek:  :ugeek:
But better find it for yourself: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=17/51.11861/4.84222

And "pour la petite histoire": I remember from hearsay that BRUNO was relocated, perhaps in the 1970's or so, so that a straight line from BRUNO to MACKEL (another waypoint, associated with the MAK NDB) allows one to fly the uncontrolled corridor between EBBR and EBAW CTR's, just North of Mechelen. But do not ask for any references, please :)

Strange they couldn't fix that door immediately upon return of the plane and had to cancel the flight. SN becoming prone to fast cancellations apparently.

ac doors are quite complex things. I can imagine the fix to take a few hours. If there is no spare ac and or crew available it's best to cancel the flight upon return so other solutions can be found for the pax asap.

I don't now if it's a anomaly but there was not one flight over the Atlantic from Brussels Airlines today!!!!
Is it not 3 daily flights?

This isn't an anomaly as today not a single U.S. flight was scheduled. These are the ones currently flying to their African destination.
