The aircraft diverted to Kano for a medical emergency. As the aircraft spend too much time at the Nigerian airport, the crew couldn't continue to Brussels (duty time regulations). The decision was then made to head back to Douala with the passengers.

I thought that modern airliners were able to cope with lightning strikes?

Hm. Some are. With some. Nature in general is a force to be reckoned with. Lightning is among nature's more forceful implements. Today's electronics are certainly better protected against surge voltages than yesterdays' - but lightning can supply currents that can and will destroy anything in their way.

Should be back soon in the air, normally within the next hour.

Wheels and brakes overheating during landing :

CRL ops had to be interrupted during 25 minutes at 13:00UTC, due to a DA42, with flat tire. A Ryanair B738 had to divert to Liège and a Wizz A320 to Maastricht.

And besides Rackham that sits in the background, the aircraft (OO-SSS?) from which the video was taken seems to have been well soaked as well.

If I can believe flyertalk, OO-SFL was flying SN515 to Washington today, and had to turn around because of an adminstrative problem.

See SN515/UA9903 Diverted back to Brussels. WHY?
If true...not very professionnal
