Also, to mention : Monarch declared bankruptcy on 2 October 2017, but ceased ops in the night of 1 October to 2 October 2017... And so is Primera Air going to do !

Advice to UK consumers on Primera Air ceasing operations

Primera Air, a Danish scheduled air carrier which operated services from various points in the United Kingdom, has announced it will cease operations.

Primera Air is not covered by the UK Civil Aviation Authority's ATOL Protection scheme which only covers passengers booked on a package holiday.

Ticket refunds
Passengers wishing to obtain a refund for unused tickets will need to contact the company directly. Passengers who booked directly with the company via either a credit, charge or debit card may alternatively be able to make a claim against their card provider. Some card providers will ask for a negative response letter confirming the position* Passengers may also be able to make a claim against their travel insurer. (*This letter will be published shortly)

Passengers who have flown
Passengers who have travelled will need to make their own arrangements to return home. They should contact their travel insurer or travel agent for assistance.

Direct booking with an airline
Airlines are not included within the ATOL Scheme, so if you booked direct with an airline that has ceased trading you will not be covered. If you paid directly to the airline by credit card you might be protected by Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974. You should check with your card issuer for further advice. You may have similar cover if you paid by Visa debit card. Check with your bank.

Booked through an Airline Ticket Agent
If you booked your ticket through an airline ticket agent you should speak to the agent in the first instance; they may have provided travel insurance that includes Scheduled Airline Failure cover, so check with your agent.

Scheduled Airline Failure Insurance (SAFI)
Some airlines and airline ticket agents will offer customers either a specific Scheduled Airline Failure Insurance (SAFI) policy or include similar protection within a broader travel insurance product. The type of protection provided may vary depending on the type of policy taken out. A policy may simply cover the cost of the original tickets purchased or any unused portion, or the additional cost of purchasing new flights, such as new tickets for travel back to the UK.

Booked with an ATOL holder
If you have booked flights or a holiday that includes flights with a travel firm that holds an ATOL (Air Travel Organiser's Licence) and received confirmation that you are ATOL protected, the travel firm is responsible for your flight arrangements and must either make alternative flights for you so that your holiday can continue or provide a full refund. If you are abroad, it should make arrangements to bring you home at the end of your trip. Contact the ATOL travel firm.

Flights from Chania seem to be cancelled...

Last flight should be PF596 from Málaga to Copenhagen.

Sorry for triple post. But it is really ended.

Flights PF2872 and PF432 both arrived at 21:40Z.

Flight PF596 just arrived at Copenhagen as final flight at 22:13Z. RIP Primera Air, you'll be missed in the skies!

What to Do If You Booked a Primera Air Flight

Unfortunately, if you have a flight booked with Primera Air, you will no longer be able to contact them via e-mail or phone if you wish to follow up with them for more information. For updates, the airline promises to provide customers with more information on its website in the coming days.

You will also need to reschedule your flights with another airline.

It is unknown whether Primera will refund your tickets, so you will need to get in touch with your credit card company or travel insurance provider in order to get your money back.

If you booked your flights through a tour operator or travel agent, contact them for more information.

I am not so sure about your last comment TLspotting! In his article, André wrote :
Primera had a bad reputation: it abruptly cancelled all its transatlantic flights from Birmingham earlier this year, and travellers had a lot of difficulties to be reimbursed, let alone get an EU261 compensation. The European flights also suffered many delays and cancellations, and passengers had the same problems.

There is no travel insurance, covering this bankruptcy.

European (EU-28) passengers with a Primera flight that is included in a travel package must contact their touroperator or travel agent. Local legislation, based upon a European Travel Directive, states that the touroperator must provide alternative transport (= at the t/o's expenses).

Passengers who had booked a ticket that was paid for by credit card, can apply a Chargeback Request with their credit card issuer (i.e. Visa, Mastercard). If they don't know how to do this, their bank can assist them.

Other passengers can only contact their travel agent or another carrier and ask for assistance and mercy (= to beg for a cheap ticket).

Once again, this bankruptcy proofs the unwillingness of their European Parliament and/or the European Commission to protect all air passengers. Back in 1994, the EC has obliged a guarantuee fund for travel packages. Unfortunately, the EC has refused so far to implement this for sole airtickets too.

Europe’s niche airlines have had a grim summer. Primera Air, VLM, Small Planet, Azur and SkyWork Airlines have all ceased operations. Expect more casualties from rising fuel prices and overcapacity unless carriers find shelter through mergers or takeovers. An in-depth analysis by credit rating agency Scope Ratings.

On top of that: long haul low cost appears to be much more difficult than short haul low cost.
Maybe this is the reason MOL's Ryanair never started the adventure...

Cheers,

RYANAIR: Launches rescue fares from Athens Airport as Primera Air cancels Athens – Billund Route

Ryanair, Europe’s No.1 airline, today 2 October, launched €24.99 rescue fares on its Athens – Billund route to accommodate customers affected by Primera Air cancelation of its Billund route from this month.

Ryanair customers can fly to and from Billund on the lowest fares, with the most on-time flights and most reliable service, and can look forward to further improvements, as Ryanair continues its “Always Getting Better” programme, which includes new routes, digital features, connecting flights and even lower fares.

These €24.99 low rescue fares are on sale now on the Ryanair.com website, for travel between now and March 2019, but must be booked by midnight Thursday (4 Oct).

Ryanair’s Nikolas Lardis said:

“Ryanair customers can continue to enjoy the lowest fares and most reliable service to and from Billund and we’ve released rescue fares to assist customers affected by the closure of Primera Air’s Athens – Billund route.

Customers can fly between Athens and Billund at fares starting from just €24.99 between now and March 2019 and these rescue fares are on sale now until midnight Thursday (4 Oct), only on the Ryanair.com website. Customers should book quickly because these fares will be gone very soon – just like Primera Air’s route at Athens.”
