The article does not mention the word cargo. However it was cargo that motivated Finnair to operate widebodies to BRU just a few years ago, until their cargo operations were subcontracted to DHL. Does this mean that the deal with DHL is over?

The deal is not over bcs it is very good business for both parties. It is extra cargo capacity which they add. DHL is in lack of capacity as the extra cargo airplanes they receive are going directly to Leipzig. You see, everything directly to Germany ;)
That's why Finnair is adding long haul planes during Winter and Summer to BRU.

DHL will put some larger/more capacity in BRU, but it won’t be soon, rather soon-ish.

Then ... the information needs to be loaded in GDS. We have the information first-hand.
In Finnair booking system.

Competition is increasing on the North American market!
So there was space for a second flight to Newark but I think it's to late now.

I am sure that there is a market for early evening NYC
Flight out of BRU. We work s lot with NYC and most of our clients visiting take the evening to EWR via ZRH they would be delighted to fly out direct at around 18:00 a 19:00 from BRU. And that flight is excellent for those suffering from jetlag. Many people prefer to arrive Evening in the states..those on business can have agood night sleep before they start the following day.. and a late return out of NYC is excellent as well.. as one can sleep immediately rather than board a 19:00 flight and by the time one snoozes one is about to land in BRU, arriving dishelved and not fresh for work.. I think that SN could have filled that flight with connecting pax out of Europe.

A pity from a spotters perspective: So no opportunity anymore to see the beautiful Hekla Aurora or Vatnajökull colour schemes.

Who knows... Icelandair might once in a while upgrade the 737 Max to a 757-200 as they do now with the 757-300. Also, the special livery planes are beautiful but they can't beat the real thing ;)

So do I. Unfortunately, SN needs the agreement of LH and both of them need that of the NA code-share JV I guess.

Even if it's never too late in the aviation market, the arrival of PF at BRU indicates that it's a missed opportunity for the LH management, UA and SN. As for EWR early evening flight than for BOS.
Cheers

About Icelandair:

This clearly shows that flying a single aisle (twice or once) on a TATL journey is no longer a hurdle for the consumers.
Moreover WOW is doing great from BRU too... Often more than half of the flights are filled with pax transferring to Boston.

Would anyone have the figures of the number of annual travelers departing from BRU with BOS final destination? To add to the list of shortcomings of SN or rather of LH!

Not sure why but Boston is booming... back in the days of Sabena here we had a dozen International airlines and I just counted and its 35 right now and many of those operate more than 1 flight a day... KLM, Korean Air and Sichuan Airlines are the next 3 to inaugurate service here while Primera is adding 3 destinations to the 2 it currently serves...
In my mind SN would have been better off with BRU-BOS rather than IAD which is already served by UA... then again for connections with Star Alliance IAD is better than BOS...
