Austrian Airlines to end its A319 service from Vienna to Shiraz and Isfahan on/after 15 September 2018.

In fact, it's more than that: Austrian Airlines is restructuring its route network as a realignment of its portfolio. The carrier to remove service to Hong Kong, Havana, Colombo, Linz, Isfahan and Shiraz from September/October. Starting at end October 2018, service to Miami will be offered on a seasonal basis during the winter months.

Austrian Airlines announced their winter flight schedule 2018/2019. It will see increased frequencies to German destinations, not necessarily to hubs - but also to Denmark, Ukraine and Greece. Eastern European destinations will see increased frequencies as well, especially in Ukraine. On the longhaul route, aside from the new destination Cape Town passengers will have the possibility to fly to some US destinations on more rotations. The number of flights to Tel Aviv will be nearly doubled, compared to the last winter flight schedule.

Austrian to continue Tokyo flights in summer 2019

Austrian Airlines announced that the VIE-NRT flights will be continued in the summer schedule 2019. Five weekly flights are planned. This comes as a pleasant surprise for those who prefer flying with the Austrian flag carrier, as it was announced some days ago that ANA will be flying to Vienna as well, serving the HND-VIE route on a daily basis, beginning with 17 February 2019. A codeshare agreement was signed between the two airlines as well for the Tokyo routes. So in the summer, 12 weekly flights will connect the Austrian and Japanese capitals.

Austrian Airlines will deploy four Q400s from its home base in Vienna in order to strengthen its route network. All aircraft have been on wet lease to SWISS and will be recalled by first half of 2019.

Planespotters noticed that the new livery of Austrian Airlines - the first newly painted aircraft, 20y-veteran A321-211 OE-LBD returned last week from the paintshop to Vienna - does not include the titles "Lufthansa Group" on the rear part of the fuselage. Speculating whether this was a mistake, an Austrian aviation portal reached out to Austrian Airlines' press spokesman Peter Thier, whose answer was remarkable:

"The name 'Lufthansa Group' is not part of the corporate design of Austrian Airlines anymore. With the redesign of the group, we came to the decision that we want to strengthen die premium brands Austrian, Swiss and Lufthansa, while the name of the group shall not be shown to the customers themselves. Of course in our hearts we remain to be a proud part of the Lufthansa Group."
