I got that, I just wanted to know, if TUI needs a B737, which is the case normally, they won't pay for an A340... (there must be a difference).

I think you didn’t get it, because you keep on asking the same question....
AB has an A340, if you want it you pay for it, as simple as that.
If you need a small bottle of milk, but end up buying a big one because you can’t find a small one, do you pay for the big one or the small one?
It’s not rocket science, is it?

So in the end, did TUI pay for an A340, or did AB priced like a B737 (to have their airplane flying or for whatever reason) ?
It can't be so difficult to find a b737 or equivalent.

They paid whatever price was agreed. You seem to think there exists a kind of catalogue or price list but I am not so sure; and even if one exists it can only be indicative, never binding.

Not that commercial air transport is my specialty, but I can well imagine some operators may prefer at certain moments to rent out aircraft below actual cost: just to make a minimum of hours for the crew and perhaps for the plane too. So stop thinking there are fixed rates for each type of airliner; there are a multitude of factors involved. "priced like a B737" means nothing.

I'm sure that AB may have gone a certain "catalogue rental price" for an A343, as it is indeed more useful to use the aircraft and crew to earn some money (better some money than none) in order to be asked in the future. If AB can continue to fly for TUI on certain routes at a rather low price, they'll make more money than flying once or twice a month for Surinam Airways at the "standard" price.

AB on the other can’t use the seats, even if the remain empty (eg staff travel).
The number of passengers is a decisive factor in the price calculation. Quite obvious, because an A340 with 125 passengers will burn less fuel then one with 250 passengers.

AB probably hasn't charged TUI like AB would do for Surinam Airways. Operating these flights for TUI with a small margin was enough for AB: otherwise, the aircraft would remain parked. They have fixed costs and variable costs, so that gives some space.

I know from someone within TUI that entities are allowed to shop outside the group when the offer is better then what another entities can do. Example: one TUI.be 737 flew for TUI.nl when the AB 340 flew for TUI.be.

and not to forget the summer lease from Orange2fly, Euro Atlantic and Smartlynx (in CRL) which are all outside the group

Not obvous at all as there is no F for fuel in ACMI ( as in Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance), the fuel bill comes on top of that and is paid by TUI....

According to FR24, there is an A343 doing AF-1801 MAD-CDG (ETD 17:45L).

Ok finally some marketing.
1800 EUR return in J is not very cheap.
The same way 449 EUR is not very cheap.

Price at 349 EUR and 1299 EUR respectively as launch fares and there will be takers. I will find a reason to fly to Hong Kong for that.
Once you are established you can jack up the fares.

I would pay 449 EUR for a flight to NRT. But anymore than that and it makes more sense to get miles and lounge access with Oneworld and enjoy the occasional free upgrade.

I'm the voice of the market.

If they want to fly via the south route they will need more fuel, less pax...By the way, yesterday with hot weather I saw some 340 departures in DUS, they need a lot of runway length !!

Were they full thrust? On long runways aircraft take off at reduced thrust to reduce engine wear, so the take off roll is longer.

Both planes heading Tenerife according to FR24, one flies for TUI and it seems the other one is positioning for TUI NL.

TFL649P from Brussels to Tenerife https://fr24.com/TFL649P/115ed7f7
