Postponed till after the weekend due to low visibility at Charleroi, the visibility is required for PAPI test.
Indeed the PAPI is set for ICAO Code "C" aircraft, i.e. B737 or A320.

The PAPI at EBCI gives a visual signal centred around 3 degrees above the horizontal plane and provides an MEHT (Minimum Eye Height above Threshold) of 59ft (18m) on RWY 25.
The aircraft wheels must pass over the threshold with a minimum clearance, when the pilot's eye are at the lowest part of the "On-Slope" signal.
Airbus APP Attitude.png

An A343 in approach attitude (3°, MLW, VRef +5, ...) gives a height difference between Pilot's eye path and Wheel path of 10.92m.
If the pilot follows the (lowest) On-Slope angle, the wheels will be at 7.06m above ground when crossing the THLD.

ICAO sets for an aircraft of this size a desired wheel clearance of 9.00m and a minimum of 6.00m.
So at EBCI we are within the acceptable limits although a bit low.

It is also important to check the compatibility between PAPI and ILS signals.

I hope they will obtain the OK without having the need to modify the existing settings.

H.A.

All the best Air Belgium!
