They can have planes without an AOC. You don't need an AOC to lease/own/rent a plane, you need an AOC for commercial operations with the aircrafts. If they have licensed pilots they can even take them out for a spin as long as they don't operate them commercially. Besides most leasing companies a "Belgian" company comes to mind. SHS Aviation had several F-50's registered under their name without having any AOC's. It's actually not much different than buying and registering a car without having a drivers license. The only thing needed (besides all the paperwork) is a valid insurance.

It might be a tactic from AB to put the BCAA on additional pressure to grant them their AOC. Like saying, hey look, we have the planes, we have the people, we have everything in place, everything is OK from our side now give us our fucking paperwork. It might work but it can have a greater chance to backfire. We'll have to just wait and see.

The fact that the plane will be delivered without a livery does seem to apply that AB isn't to confident that it will succeed.


Anyway, wait and see is the only thing we can do.

Seems that approximately 2 years of time isn't enough to get an airplane painted

Anyway, I'm glad they didn't paint it due to the incorrect order of colours

The first two A340-313 aircraft of Air Belgium have got their Belgian registration (OO-ABA and -ABB) as of today, 16 February. Both were built in 2007. And they also seem to have a Cessna 401 (but that might be a bug: it belongs to ServisAIR BELGIUM), as shown by this screenprint from the FPS Mobility...

The Belgian register is booming with A340 as of lately, it seems.
Never thought I'd live to see one on it after the bankruptcy of Sabena, and now we have 4!

No, the Cessna belongs to Servisair Belgium, but when you ask for Air Belgium in the register, it gives every company with the letters "Air Belgium", thus also "ServisAIR BELGIUM".

Still think it's a pity they chose for Charleroi, it makes them a second class airline... Can you imagine Cathay Pacific choosing CRL? Ofcourse not, they fly to the premium airport.

Charleroi used to be considered as a second class airport, but year after year it's becoming less the case anymore, there are more and more airlines establishing flight out there.

For us, Belgian, CRL is the airport of Charleroi, but for people overseas, this is another airport of Brussels.

For us, Belgian, CRL is the airport of Charleroi, but for people overseas, this is another airport of Brussels.

just the usual WIZZ, Pegasus, Ryanair Air Corsica and Jetair who expand their offer now and then . Nothing new (apart from Belavia) but it's good for the people living nearby not having to drive to BRU

You prefer the "new" OST Terminal ?
Normally, this kind of flight should be for T1 and not T2..
BTW, the first and biz passengers will be in the general aviation terminal (to be refurbished)
And, I invite you to revise your geography ...... no ring, no Marcinelle between CRL and Brussels, Namur, Antwerp, Gent, Brugge.....

It's the same administration, the BCAA, that delivers the registrations and the AOCs. One can hope that their people speak to each other.
