Industrial action avoided at OST.

Aviapartner management has agreed to give 3 part-time staffmembers a fulltime and give some agency staff and fixed term contract.
Problems with AP has seen diverted TUIfly and Egyptair Cargo flights.

AP management is blamed for some problems with other carriers, mainly problems due to shortness of staff.

Less passengers in 2017 compared to 2016.
Ostend airport had about 70.000 passengers less compared to 2016.(Brussels attacks)
But compared to 2015, they had 15% more or 365.345 compared to 276.000 in 2015.
Thanks to TUIfly who is the only passengerairline at the airport and will be for a long time...

Freight went up by 5.2% to 23.396 tons way under the figures compared to the period 2005-2013.
There were some signs of a recovery at the end of 2017.

TUI fly has added a 20% extra capacity at the airport of Ostend this Easter.

According a spokesman they had to do this because of a spectacular increase in bookings compared to Easter last year(up by 37%)

As for freight, some companies are testing the airport again with a few flights.
So far AP has delivered what they promised.

Strange to see the figures go up - good news indeed! - except for the "movements" going down - much less training flights or other aeroclub operations? Helicopter operations by NZH?

Less general aviation using the airport at the moment.
Will go up in the summer. ;)

Apron 3 was renewed last year for general aviation, a brandnew business terminal will open in Spring 2019.
I hear and read that rates for general aviation are too high at EBOS so perhaps when they get the freight traffic back up, like the early 90's, they can tackle this problem :P

Hall B or the new familylounge opened today at Ostend airport.
The hall is a extension of the current departure lounge within the main building and has children's playroom called the TUI juniorlounge.

EBOS = TUI (only) airport

Looking at that remarkable project might be the best way for him to see how vain his wish is today - and will likely be for a good while.

TUI management says that OST is now one of the most child friendly airports in Belgium.
This summer 3 planes will be based at OST(1 Embraer and 2 B737-800's) with one extra plane(737-MAX) who will be shared with BRU.
Futhermore will Freebird A320 serve the some Turkish destinations.

There are already plans for the loyal Ostend airport in S2019, a fourth plane (737-800 or MAX?) is likely to be based at OST.(depending on the figures of S18)
They are looking at 4 to 5 new destinations or a increase in flights on the current destinations(ALC,PMI).

TUI is also looking at the French market with up to 40.000 extra customers for OST.

They have excellent press coverage: local tv (Focus) and the two Flemish main stream media. All showing Ostend Airport as best airport if you have to wait with children.

Pax, movements and freight increased by 18% last month compared to March 2017.

A new restaurant opened today, runway 26=08 is situated near the airport with great views on the runway.
Its the ex Charles(ex Icarus) restaurant who has been renovated.

The kitchen in the restaurant will prepare airlinemeals for the leisure and business aircrafts who visit the airport.

VLM will serve the Manchester-Antwerp and Manchester-Ostend/Bruges routes from 1st October 2018. It is the first time that Manchester will have a direct flight to Ostend-Bruges, offering passengers easy access to the stunning, medieval city of Bruges. The airline will operate the Ostend-Bruges service once a day. Additionally, VLM will serve Antwerp twice daily Monday to Friday, with daily flights over the weekend.

Hence, OST will no longer be a TUI-only airport :)
