Norwegian is better prepared to cope with peak travel seasons in 2018, and does not plan to lease expensive aircraft or crews from other companies, says chief executive Bjorn Kjos. The carrier will add some 25 new Boeing aircraft to its fleet in 2018 under a long-term investment plan.

KLM gave up rights for some slots at Amsterdam Schiphol to Norwegian, in order to allow more competition on the New York route.

Small adjustment: KLM was forced to do so by the European Commission.

Indeed. I cannot imagine that KLM gave up those slots lightheartedly.

Norwegian to replace all of the Trent 1000 engines on its 21 B787s over problems mainly with the blades. Carrier plans to bill Rolls-Royce for the swap to newer Trent 1000 TEN engines. Norwegian’s 11 new Dreamliners arriving in 2018 will be delivered already with the newer engines.

when MoL said last year that Norwegian might not last very long anymore he was laughed at on this forum. Since then more and more investment banks have been giving profit warnings and recommending to sell shares as norwegian is rapidly running out of cash. Aviation analytics have published an article on just how precarious the situation is and the pitfalls the company faces.

On a question about Norwegian, Michael O’Leary thinks that Norwegian will be gone in 4-5 months: “Norwegian is running out of cash, burning so much cash it may not survive this winter…* ”

* A Norwegian spokesperson said: “These comments have no root in reality. Norwegian has been profitable for the last 10 years, with a strong liquidity, together with owning a substantial share of Bank Norwegian which has a market value of over £1.6billion (NOK 17 billion).

Well, obviously, investment Banks and aviation business analysts are more siding with O’Leary’s version of events

Well it would have been good for any company, as KLM and Sky Team were too dominant on that line. Any other company than Norwegian who wanted to start this line could have done so.

Bjorn Kos admitted today that the 2017 figures for Norwegian are bad.
His words: “the good thing about 2017 is that it’s 2018”
Figures are expected to be dark red, another example of unsustainable growth!

30 Million loss ?
That's peanuts. Uber lost 4.5 Billion last year.
Norwegian is the most likely to beat the shit out of every other airline on the planet from a strategic point of view

Norwegian Air, the carrier dominating the world’s low-cost long haul market, is planning to expand yet again: this time the airline led by CEO Bjoern Kjos is looking to begin flying to Africa and the Middle East. Norwegian already operates a vast long haul network from Europe to the US and Asia — and from today also to South America, with the launch of its London (LGW) – Buenos Aires (EZE) route on Wednesday. Its network would grow further, according to Kjos, if it wasn’t for opposition from politicians whom the CEO called “probably” corrupt.

Kjos is also planning to introduce Norwegian’s premium seat on the new Airbus A321LR, like on the Boeing 787 it flies across the Atlantic, and wants to use the plane to tap in the future a market it says has huge potential: India and Pakistan. But he’s also incensed by Russia’s refusal to grant Norwegian the right to overfly Siberia, a route that the airline needs for further expansion to East Asia.
