Norwegian starts push into Argentine market

Norwegian has set the ball in motion insofar as its South American operations are concerned with the establishment of an Argentine holding company.

A review of the country's national gazette shows Norwegian Air Argentina S.A. was established on January 25 with its board members said to be Diego Ferrari (Chief Executive Officer and Chairman), Matias Cambiaso and Hernán Ferrari. All three are members of a local law firm.

In terms of operational parameters, the firm will involve itself in the scheduled and chartered passenger market offering domestic and international flights.

As previously reported, Norwegian's manager of Communications and Institutional Relations (Spain), Alfons Claver, told La Nacion newspaper last year the LCC planned to base between six and ten aircraft - B737-800 and B737 MAX 8s - at two or three Argentine cities.

Among those considered for base operations include Buenos Aires, Córdoba Int'l, and possibly Mendoza. All aircraft will be enrolled on the country's national register.

Norwegian wants to sign partnerships with Ryanair and easyjet in order to challenge more established global carriers and allowing them to compete in the US and EMEA. Norwegian hopes to have the initial partnership formalised first with Ryanair before end of 2017.

Not sure that the EU will allow such a form of cartel though...

With easyJet having a uk AOC and Norwegian also having one, depending on what Brexit might bring, they might be able to circumvent european legislation

Norwegian plans to expand operations and buy many more B787s — if the carrier can overcome opposition from US airlines and unions. In addition, the carrier plans to launch flights from Seattle to London with B787 if its UK subsidiary approved by US DOT.

Ryanair to start feeder flights for Norwegian this summer

Irish low-cost carrier (LCC) Ryanair and LCC Norwegian plan to start joint feeder flights from summer 2017 onward.

We are ready to cooperate with Norwegian right now,” Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary said on the sidelines of the Airlines for Europe (A4E) summit in Brussels. “We are finalizing technical implementation as Ryanair and Norwegian operate on two different reservation systems,” he said, adding, “It is better to work with them instead of compete with them [Norwegian].”

Both carriers are A4E members.

Norwegian CEO Kjos said his company is still young in the long-haul business. “We operate 12 Boeing 787s; in three years we will have more than 40 787s,” Kjos said.

Norwegian intends to scale back short-haul operations at London Gatwick as soon as winter 2017/18, as competition weighs on prices. This will free up scarce operating slots for its new B787 trans-Atlantic routes.

Norwegian plans to establish a unit in Argentina with 10 B737s by end of 2017. The carrier already applied for an AOC and is now seeking rights to serve domestic routes out of Buenos Aires.

The fact that Ryanair and Norwegian are planning to codeshare and feed into each time other combined with the huge B787 order by Norwegian is causing skid marks in many CEO's underwear in boardrooms of legacy carriers. I think the European aviation landscape will change significantly in the future

Norwegian may not be able to launch its planned Barcelona – Tokyo Narita service as the existing Spain – Russia bilateral agreement only allows for Trans-Siberian flights out of Madrid.

Norwegian to launch B787 services from Rome Fiumicino to Newark Liberty on 09 November, Los Angeles on 11 November 2017, and Oakland on 06 February 2018.

Alitalia will feel the heat! If it is still there...

Norwegian officially opens its long-haul base in Paris today. 26 pilots with permant French work contracts.
Hopes to increase that number to 300-500 and to offer permanent French work contrats to flight attendants, too, if it is a success.
Norwegian flies from CDG to JFK, LAX, FLL and Oakland.
AIr France, Corsair, XL Airways and others will feel the heat, too.
Norwegian also operates European flights from a number of French airports.

Norwegian aims to add additional B787 routes to Seattle, from “the largest cities in Europe" from late 2018.

In other news, Norwegian is interested in being the launch customer for the B797 concept, with the potential new aircraft replacing its B737 MAX fleet after 10 years of flying.
